It seems that Cole Hamels was trying to take a page out of the Jamie Moyer playbook . The Marlins have gone 15 for 77 in the three games Hamels has started against them and still won all three. Sunday they did so in spite of Hamels' best Jamie Moyer impersonation. Both Ross and Hermida said Hamels threw even more change-ups than usual and kept his fastball in the mid-80s opposed to his typical low-90s....

Cole Hamels usually struggles when he has to pitch under the sun but if you watched him pitch on Sunday afternoon at the league’s hottest daytime park, you’d never know. Hamels shrugged off the 90 degree heat and breezed through his first 7 innings, limiting the Marlins to just two hits, two walks and one [...]

MIAMI - The all-star break apparently didn't agree with Cole Hamels. The lefthander, pitching on six days' rest instead of the customary four, surrendered a pair of solo home runs in yesterday's 3-2, 11-inning loss to the Florida Marlins.

MIAMI - Cole Hamels has all the ingredients necessary to make himself a 20-game winner. He has youth, with parts of just three big-league seasons behind him and plenty in front. He has a solid repertoire of pitches, including his filthy changeup. And he has a never-scared mound presence that makes success seem like a forgone conclusion.

With two runs allowed on two home runs today, 13 of Cole Hamels last 18 runs allowed came via the long ball. In his last eight starts, he's allowed nine solo homers and two with a man on first. Cole...

Usually when I wield my red pen, I don't go after things that are unrelated to grammar. Finally, though, there's a reason for an exception. WTF is that ? That... scruff ? That rubbish that mars the otherwise beautiful face of Cole Hamels? I nearly screamed when I went to phillies.com and saw this picture there. Cole Hamels is gorgeous . He might very well be be the best-looking baseball player currently...

No theme today....just rants. People can bitch and moan all they want about the lack of run support for Cole Hamels but two things should be noted regarding today's loss: 1. He was given a two-run lead and could not hold it; and, 2. The long ball was his downfall yet again. Hamels, the announcers kept reminding us, came into this game with a plan, to throw his curve more and keep the free-swinging,...

Cole Hamels is the Phillies' ace, but he hasn't pitched like it in two starts against the Marlins this season (0-1, 5.93). Perhaps the third time, and the two extra days' rest he's coming off, will prove a charm. Attendance note: check if the large number of Phillies fans evidently at Dolphins Stadium boo Wes Helms, plaything third and hitting cleanup for Florida this afternoon. Lineup Philadelphia...

The Phillies turn to Cole Hamels (9-6, 3.15) this afternoon when they go for the series win against Josh Johnson (0-0, 5.40) and the Marlins. It’s getting late in July and these are starting to become must-win games. This would be a crucial win on the road versus a tough division rival. This is every bit as important as Tuesday's series in New York. It’s why the ace of your staff is so important. Following...

The "first half," really the first 60 percent of the season, ends today at OFJOAB with a pitching matchup to dream on: Brandon Webb versus Cole Hamels. Webb leads the NL in wins with 13; Hamels, though I haven't checked this definitely, probably leads the NL in non-win quality starts, with five (three losses, two no-decisions) as well as two other blown quality starts which he lost. He's gone at least...

Brandon Webb RHP, 13-4, 3.27 Cole Hamels LHP, 9-6, 3.18 Baseball-Reference.com preview [opens in new window] Should be a good pitching match-up today: Webb has more wins than anyone in the National league, but Hamels has a slightly better ERA, and his WHIP trails only Dan Haren, so I think base-runners may be at a premium for us. It'll be a good test of our offense, who are apparently feeling slightly...

Team aces Brandon Webb and Cole Hamels square off in the series finale between the Diamondbacks and Phillies, a day after Adam Eaton’s embarrassing performance. Eaton (3-8) allowed eight runs on seven hits over 3 2-3 innings, the critical damage coming at the hands of opposing pitcher Randy Johnson. Johnson’s two-out, RBI double opened the door to an eight-run inning. Eaton has now allowed 16 runs...
