In a surprising move, the Tigers have traded Pudge Rodriguez to the Yankees today for reliever Kyle Farnsworth. This means that Brandon Inge will be the starting catcher and Dane Sardinha would be the back-up unless they make another move prior to the deadline. Kyle Farnsworth will likely serve as the set up man for Fernando Rodney and perhaps become the closer if Rodney struggles in that role

Catcher Dane Sardinha cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Toledo, the Tigers announced today. Sardinha spent roughly two weeks in the big leagues with Detroit while Brandon Inge was on the disabled list with a pulled oblique muscle. He batted .167 with no home runs and two RBIs in five games.

Dane Sardinha was called up earlier in the week so that the Tigers would have a capable defender to back up Pudge Rodriguez while Brandon Inge recovered from a pulled oblique muscle. He wasn't expected to hit much. Today, Sardinha got his first major league hit and it was a big one. He smashed a two run triple to center field off of Rockies reliever Matt Herges to put the Tigers in front 4-3
