Paul Byrd had pitched like a Cy Young candidate since joining the Red Sox, he came back to reality in Game 1 of today's doubleheader. Byrd went 5 innings giving up 10 hits and 5 earned runs. David Aardsma came in for his first appearance since coming off of the DL and looked like a guy that is still not right. He pitched an inning giving up 3 runs, all earned. The only good news from the pitching staff...

There is injury news about three Red Sox, all seemingly pretty good for Boston. Left fielder J.D. Drew thinks he might be back in time to play the Devil Rays, Kevin Youkilis's back is feeling good enough to play while everything is fine at home, and David Aardsma will pitch in a Single A Lowell Spinners playoff game either Monday or Tuesday. Both Youkilis and manager Terry Francona felt the day off...

BALTIMORE - Boston is going through its bullpen. After Clay Buchholz lasted 2-1/3 innings, allowing three hits, five runs, David Aardsma, Javier Lopez and now Mike Timlin have appeared. We're in the bottom of the fifth. Buchholz lost his 7th straight decision, the longest streak by a Sox pitcher since Frank Castillo lost eight straight June 19-Sept.16, 2002. A pair of three-run homers by Ramon Hernandez...

A solo shot from Lind in the third made it 7-0 and signalled the end for Beckett. David Aardsma started warming up, for the second time (he was up at the end of the first, too). Beckett struck out Barajas but then gave up a double to center to Overbay, and that was the end of his start. The line on Beckett: 2 1/3 innings, 8 runs, all earned, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 1 home run, 1 hit batsman. It was...

Believe it of not but Justin Masterson once did a reasonable impersonation of Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon. Masterson, who was optioned to Pawtucket on July 7 and recalled by Boston on July 20 when David Aardsma was placed on the D.L, joined the Wareham Gatemen in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League for the [...]
