As we watched David Newhan steal home (and I can’t even remember the last Astro to do that - Adam Everett? Craig Biggio? Willy T') Husband sighed, pulled out his phone made a quick call and said - I’ll pick you up. I said - pick WHO up? And he said, well, I gotta work [...]

The Astros are 13-7 since Kaz Matsui left the lineup. David Newhan is hitting .324 in 10 starts at second base, and Darin Erstad is batting .286 as a leadoff hitter. They've won seven in a row, including Tuesday's 9-7 11-inning victory over the Cubs in which they turned four double plays and got solid relief work from Wesley Wright. On August 7, the Astros were 54-59 and beginning a series in Cincinnati....

I've never completely understood the adage about not letting the other team's best guy beat you. He's their best guy. He's supposed to be the one who beats you if you are, in fact, supposed to get beaten. When Albert Pujols homered off Aaron Heilman in the fourteenth inning a few weeks ago, it wasn't fun, but it was Albert Pujols. It beat Yadier Molina beating us. Likewise, I can accept Miguel Tejada...

Astros 8 Mets 3 It was not a good day for John Maine. Anytime you give up a homerun to David Newhan, things are not going well. Maine was rocked for 8 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 2/3 innings, including 2 homeruns, in a 105-pitch effort. The Mets’ difficulty in coming back from [...]

The Mets beat the Astros in todays spring training game, 3 to 0. John Maine went a full 3 innings, striking out three, giving up no hits and walking that pesky David Newhan. At least one of his strikeouts was Victor Diaz. This lowers his spring ERA to 4.15. Wags pitched one, Heilman two and [...]

Mets transactions, per Rotoworld : Dave Williams and David Newhan were outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans. Williams declined the assignment and Newhan will likely do the same. These are nothing transactions. Williams might be reasonable as a long-man, but he only appeared in two games for the Mets last year, allowing 11 runs in 4.1 innings. Newhan stunk up the joint at every opportunity and, though...

Mets manager Willie Randolph , dealing with a lineup depleted by injuries, saw his bench players come through in a 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks. Ruben Gotay had three hits including a three-run homer and David Newhan and Ramon Castro contributed key hits as well. Journeyman pitcher Jorge Sosa (5-1) had another strong outing, going 6 2/3 innings.
