NYY 19, BOS 8: Sox dumped, A.L. East title hopes squashed

Robinson Cano drove in five RBI’s and the New York Yankees took it to the Boston Red Sox 19-8. Daisuke Matsuzaka was scratched from his start due to the weather and it showed in the box score. David Pauley who made the spot start suffered the loss over 2 2/3’s innings of work on six hits and [...]

We've got a ballgame

When everyone bought those last-weekend-of-the-season Yankees-Red Sox tickets back in February, they probably were not hoping for Alfredo Aceves vs. David Pauley in the rain. But that is exactly what they are getting. First pitch was at 8:36.

Dice-K scratched, start delayed

The game will not start at 8:05, and Daisuke Matsuzaka will not pitch tonight. (For the record, if you couldn't tell, I don't think the game will start, and I don't think anyone will throw a pitch tonight.) If and when the game begins, David Pauley will be pitching for the Red Sox. It's still raining. A lot. When there is more information, we will pass it along.

Bowden to start tonight

In a last minute change, the Red Sox have pushed David Pauley out to the bullpen and called up Michael Bowden to make his Major League debut tonight against the Chicago White Sox. Just 21 years old, Bowden has made a rapid ascent this season, and finally joins his good friend Justin Masterson on the [...]

Bowden to debut tomorrow

The Red Sox just made it official, announcing that Michael Bowden would make his big league debut tomorrow instead of original probable David Pauley. Bowden was 0-3 with a 3.88 ERA in six starts (seven appearances) with Pawtucket. Here's the word on him from soxprospects.com Scouting Report: Bowden is a big righty starter with a top-of-the-rotation ceiling, but likely projects as a solid third starter...

Bowden Called Up

According to Joe McDonald of the Providence Journal, the Boston Red Sox have called up Michael Bowden from Pawtucket to take the place of Sean Casey on the 25-man roster. It appears Bowden will be pitching out of the bullpen as David Pauley is scheduled to start tomorrow night for the Red Sox. In 19 starts [...]

Aardsma Back On DL

Rotoworld says David Aardsma is back on the disabled list with a strained right groin and will undergo an MRI. The Red Sox have called up David Pauley to take his place (at least until Tuesday, when Tim Wakefield is supposed to return). *** Tampa Bay scored four runs in the eighth inning this afternoon and beat Chicago 5-3 . The Rays' win dropped the Red Sox 5.5 GB. The FKR have the best record in...

Bailey up; Pauley down

Quick call-up and send-down for David Pauley. He sat in the Sox bullpen tonight and was then sent back to Pawtucket and DH/1B/OF Jeff Bailey was recalled. Don't know if this is the final move on this roster spot. The Sox might be scouring the waiver wire for another solution and perhaps a corner infielder who may protect them with Mike Lowell on the DL. Stay tuned.

Lowell to the DL, David Pauley Called Up “Just In Case”

As we feared, Mike Lowell has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain. Taking his place on the roster will be David Pauley, a pitcher who has had a relatively decent year in Pawtucket (3.32 ERA in 135.2 innings, 94/40 K/BB). Pauley will serve as an insurance arm tonight after the [...]

Just in case

The Sox brought up righthander David Pauley from Pawtucket to fortify the bullpen, "in case something ever happened,'' said Francona. "You know we had a lot of guys throw a lot of pitches last night. The chances are that after tonight's game, if everything goes according to plan, maybe we'll make another move. But we'll take it one at a time here.'' Pauley recalled; why so many starters?

With Mike Lowell being officially put on the DL, pitcher David Pauley has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. A starting pitcher, it would make sense that maybe he would make a spot start for the Sox. And with the acquisition of Paul Byrd to cover one rotation spot, it kind of begs the question; why [...]
