NEW YORK - It happened fast. One minute, the Phillies were in first place, or at least tied for it, nursing a game knotted at 1-1 in the eighth inning at Shea Stadium. The next, Carlos Delgado was swinging, and his line drive was falling, and Robinson Cancel and David Wright were scoring. And while the dust around home plate was settling, Wright popped up and pumped his fist, and this is what was left:...

Amid the hand slaps, fist knocks and hip bumps the victorious first place Mets exchanged with one another after the final out of this afternoon's game, there was an embrace. David Wright hugged Carlos Delgado . David was hugging Carlos for all of us. There isn't a Mets fan I know of who doesn't owe Delgado a hug. Hindsight being what it is, the time for the hug was a couple of months ago when Delgado...

On Wednesday, "Nightline" co-host Cynthia McFadden and correspondent David Wright condescendingly reported on the disparity in the media's coverage of Barack Obama and John McCain. For all my fellow David Wright lovers, news has finally surfaced that our favorite third baseman has a lady friend. (He once claimed girls "were a distraction," but I guess a model like Molly Beers is the good kind of distraction.) Of course the sweetheart slugger threw her a perfect surprise birthday party (collective aaaaw!). More pics over at The Big Lead .
