Ortiz leaves game with left hand injury

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz left Saturday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles in the ninth inning after injuring his left hand. Ortiz, who was 2-for-3 with his 13th home run, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs, apparently sustained the injury while fouling off a 3-1 Dennis Sarfate pitch. Following the foul, Ortiz stepped out of the batter's box and flexed his hand a couple of times.

Shortstop Miguel Tejada, who was the American League MVP in 2002 when he was with the A's, was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston Astros for five players. Baltimore received outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo for the four-time All-Star.
