The Texas Rangers, who are capable of bold moves and would like to replace Milton Bradley's offense, are considering a pursuit of superstar free agent Manny Ramirez. The Rangers have been quiet this winter -- their big move has been signing reliever Derrick Turnbow -- but are looking at a number of ways to improve. Owner Tom Hicks has shown a willingness to make big signings in the past (Alex Rodriguez...

There's a certain frustration that I feel, and that other Rangers fans appear to feel, over the lack of activity this offseason. The idea of going into 2009 with our big offseason additions being Guillermo Moscoso, Beau Vaughan, and Derrick Turnbow is reminiscent of what happened after the 2004 season, when the Rangers built on a surprisingly succesful year by doing...nothing. Part of the problem,...

Turnbow signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers that includes an invitation to spring training. ...Thus saving us from discussing Derrick Turnbow anymore, which I'm pretty happy about. In other news, the Angels signed Brian Fuentes to a two-year, $17.5 million deal, wit a 2011 option that vests if he closes for long enough. Fuentes isn't young and flashy like Francisco Rodriguez , but he's still a really good pitcher, and his 2008 was nearly as good as Rodriguez. Fuentes is also a fun pitcher...

The Derrick Turnbow "sweepstakes" are officially over, and the Texas Rangers are the victors. It's a tough market out there for relievers right now, especially with Brian Fuentes signing with the Angels , so I'm not surprised to see a team take a chance on DBow. This is the kind of low-risk, high-reward move the Brewers make all the time, and I wish the Rangers the best of luck with their Turnbow experiment....

Well, a move, finally. The Rangers have signed Derrick Turnbow to a minor league deal. Yippee. Turnbow is kind of another Jamey Wright, a guy who throws hard, gets ground balls, and has a hard time sustaining success. He had a great ERA for the Brewers a few years back, although the peripherals didn't support it, and then followed it up with two high ERA seasons where his peripherals weren't as bad...

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com fills us in on the Rangers ongoing search for bullpen help: Derrick Turnbow is at the top of the list with pitching coach Mike Maddux leading the charge. The two worked together a few years ago in Milwaukee. The Marlins and Pirates are also thought to have interest. The Rangers are also investigating closers Chad Cordero and Jason Isringhausen, both free agents. As Sullivan...
