When Ramon Santiago took over for Edgar Renteria at shortstop in the eighth inning last night, it looked like he was coming in as a defensive replacement. Apparently, I should've been watching more closely. Renteria appeared to have tweaked his aching hamstring while trying to beat out a double-play ball in the top of the inning and had to come out of the game. Here's more from Jason Beck : He left...

Edgar Renteria has had a half season that everybody would probably like to forget. The.259 batting average looks great compared to the .301 OBP and .326 slugging percentage. Couple this with the fact that Jair Jurrjens is pitching well and the Tigers are a long shot for the playoffs at this point, and [...]

If Edgar Renteria is not the Tigers' starting shortstop next year, who will be? The free-agent class is average at best, and it doesn't look as though anyone in the farm system will be ready for the everyday job at the start of next season.
