Peer into the future: Edwin Encarnacion

It seems like there are two trains of thought currently with Edwin Encarnacion. On the one side, you have people who see a player that is still young with much promise. These people tend to believe that EdE is due for a breakout season this year, potentially developing 30 HR power and driving in 100 runs. Some also believe that he will eventually become adequate defensively at 3B. On the other side,...

Giants and EE match?

John Fay is reporting: –Heard from a reliable source today that the Giants are interested in the Edwin Encarnacion. I think Encarnacion is the most likely Red to be traded for two reasons: He’s got high-value and the Reds are deep in the minors at third base. No mention on what they might be offering.

Giants Interested In Encarnacion

According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Giants are interested in Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion. Fay considers EE the most likely Red to be traded, with Homer Bailey second on that list. Encarnacion, 26 in January, hit .251/.340/.466 in 582 plate appearances while playing poor defense. He's arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, so he's under team control for three...

More on the Rockies, Reds, and Edwin Encarnacion

GM Walt Jocketty confirmed that the Reds have been in discussions with the Rockies. In addition to the discussions that we mentioned earlier, Jocketty said they also were involved, briefly, in Matt Holliday talks: Jocketty said the Reds did talk to the Rockies about Matt Holliday, who is Oakland A’s-bound. “Definitely,” he said. Did it ever get [...]

How Valuable is Francisco Cordero?

Okay, time to discuss CoCo. No, not this Koko; this CoCo. How valuable is this guy? And can that value be discussed without looking at the contract he signed last off-season? I’ll be honest, I’m surprised that Edwin Encarnacion’s “How Valuable” post didn’t top Brandon Phillips’ post for number of comments. Feel [...]

How Valuable is Edwin Encarnacion?

Okay, time for another community discussion, since yesterday’s look at Brandon Phillips prompted some thoughtful responses from you guys out there in the Nation (and that BP conversation is still ongoing). Anyway, today’s subject is our intrepid third-baseman, Edwin Encarnacion. Overrated? Underrated? What is his future with the Reds? Let’s hear your [...]

Game Thread: Reds at Snakes

Okay, I didn’t watch the game live last night, but I did Tivo it, and watched a few innings. Really strange to see Adam Dunn hitting against Aaron Harang. I can say I did enjoy seeing my favorite Red, Edwin Encarnacion, and Jay Bruce and Joey Votto again. It’s been a while. [...]

Moving Players Around The Diamond

I know there has been some discussion here in the comments about moving certain players — Edwin Encarnacion, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips — to different positions. John Fay addresses that here, and asks GM Walt Jocketty about it.

Don't rule out position swaps

Fans have been talking about moving Edwin Encarnacion to first base since he became the third baseman. Switching Joey Votto from first base to left field is another move that has been batted around.
