A few things this afternoon that might be of some interest... Keith Law has a chat session up , and mentions several Rangers-related items, including Elvis Andrus as possibly the best shortstop prospect in the minors (he has him as a toss-up with Tim Beckham), and says if the Mets wanted to shake things up by dealing Jose Reyes, the Rangers should be the first folks for them to call... The BA Top...

At the major league level… … the ultimate product of Elvis Andrus, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison, and Bean Jones is Casey Kotchman . Like the trade, hate the trade, whichever camp you fall into one thing is likely true; Kotchman is better than Scott Thorman, but not as good as Adam LaRoche… yet. The big problem with Kotchman is that he is not (yet) the power hitter that corner...

Happy belated birthday to Elvis Andrus, who turned 20 years old on Tuesday... The Rangers website has a nice feature article up on him , including some quotes from Frisco hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh on what Andrus needs to work on (pulling the ball is one of his projects).

Last July, the Rangers netted quite a package from the Braves in exchange for Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay. By some accounts, they swiped 4 of the Braves top 5 prospects. Today, Neftali Feliz and Elvis Andrus are doing well for themselves at AA Frisco at the ages of 20 and 19, respectively. Feliz has catapulted up prospect rankings all over the place and is consistently being mentioned among the top...

There's been some discussion about Elvis Andrus's high error totals this season, and whether that is indicative of Andrus's defensive abilities being overrated, or just a product of playing shortstop in the minors. So I went and looked up the minor league data on some generally well-regarded defensive shortstops, and counted up how many errors they had in their minor league careers. (And I offer this...

Here's some more Frisco stuff for you: • Elvis Andrus said he's been fortunate to have some good coaches and that he felt great this spring training with his footwork and range. "I know I'll make mistakes, but I'm trying not to make the same one again," Andrus said. "I'm working on it." • John Mayberry Jr. said his overall goal is to get more consistent in his all-around game. He's focused in on better...

The Roughriders won this morning/afternoon against Arkansas, 8-0 . And Chris Davis has moved beyond beast. He's a beasticon. Home run today, and hitting .391 on the year. Elvis Andrus is hitting .333, but he's also 0 for 3 stealing bases. That could be better. Still, it feels good to look at the Frisco box scores right now.

Evan Grant writes up his #1 Rangers prospect, Elvis Andrus. Comparisons to Edgar Renteria and Derek Jeter, and Grant suggests Andrus should be here by 2010 (at age 21 -- the same age the Marlins plugged Renteria into their starting lineup). Grant also says that either Young or Andrus will have to move, but I'm thinking he's just being polite there...I don't think there's any question who is going...
