It's not that Ervin Santana pitched badly (four runs over seven innings is pretty good, really) so much as the offense didn't do a whole lot off of former teammate Paul Byrd, mostly scraping a lot of singles and stranding runners everywhere. Some days, you just have to be able to hit the longball — like Cleveland did. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Gary Matthews, Jr. was in the lineup...

Lessee here... Joe Saunders pitched a scoreless third, allowing only a single to Hanley Ramirez, Ervin Santana gave up a leadoff homer to Matt Holliday, but retired the next three batters in order. Russell Martin entered the game in the fifth and flied out to end the seventh. Yahoo box

That home run, to right field, was the first All-Star hit and first All-Star home run from Matt Holliday. Holliday, you'll remember, was a fill-in starter when Alfonso Soriano couldn't because of injury. He hit it off Ervin Santana. So it's 1-0, NL, in the fifth inning.
