Felix Pie earned the final National League Division Series roster spot Tuesday as the Cubs decided to go with a defensive outfielder instead of slugger Micah Hoffpauir. Pie hit only .243 in 43 games for the Cubs, but with Mark DeRosa's sore left calf, the Cubs may need a late-inning defensive replacement in right field if DeRosa gets a start in the outfield. Hoffpauir hit .342 for the Cubs in 33 games,...

While the Cubs' NLDS roster won't be officially named until Wednesday morning, Paul Sullivan reports in the Tribune Tuesday night that Felix Pie will be on the roster and Micah Hoffpauir will not. Given Mark DeRosa's balky calf, it's not hard to understand the Cubs' desire to have, in Paul Sullivan's words, a "late-inning defensive replacement...if DeRosa gets a start in the outfield." Pie, who hit...

Here's the latest column from SI.com's Jon Heyman. Cubs prospect Felix Pie has seen his value slip this year. He didn't hit in 70 plate appearances with the big club. His Triple A OPS slipped from .973 in '07 to .780 this year. You have to wonder if the Cubs will remove the untouchable tag this winter. Heyman says there was never any negotiations between the Yankees and Scott Boras regarding Gerrit...

Some additional notes from ESPN's Jayson Stark: The Mariners still want Jon Niese and another prospect for Raul Ibanez; the Mets are not biting. Similar situation with the Ms asking the Cubs for Felix Pie and another player. The Mets aren't in on Jarrod Washburn or Tim Redding. The Marlins are making it clear that there is no done deal for Arthur Rhodes. Clark Spencer had written the Fish "could be...

According to Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union Tribune, the Cubs recently inquired on Padres shortstop Khalil Greene. The Padres prefer not to sell low on Greene, however. The Cubs have been linked to Greene in the past, and the Padres were asking about Felix Pie about a year ago. Perhaps Pie has lost the untouchable label with his .264/.315/.442 performance at Triple A. He's hitting better lately,...

There's this guy, Felix Pie (that's PEE-eh, not Pi). He's a Cub. Sometimes a Chicago one, other times an Iowa one. As an Iowa Cub—that's the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs—he's a terror. Last season he hit .362 and had an OPS of .973. On top of that he's got pretty good speed and an even better glove. Oh, we're talking baseball by the way, and if you don't know what those numbers mean, just know...

I talked with Cubs Organizational Hitting Instructor Dave Keller today, and he admitted that he was the guy in the tower yelling at Felix Pie (in Spanish) after Pie left the AZL Cubs game on Sunday, but that the conversation had to do with Pie verbally being given the hitting schedule for Monday at Fitch Park (which otherwise was an off day for the AZL Cubs), and that there was no animosity involved...

Ken Rosenthal’s latest column has a great take on the Manny situation and this nugget on the Cubbies: “The prevailing wisdom is that the Cubs’ farm system isn’t deep enough for them to land a pitcher such as Sabathia, but rating prospects often is tricky. Not long ago, center fielder Felix Pie and left-hander Rich Hill [...]

Just like deaths. Kaz Matsui’s anal fissures, Felix Pie’s testicular surgery, and … Chris Snyder’s testicular fracture. Did you just grimace? We did. On a side note, Eric Byrnes of the D-Bags went on the DL again yesterday. Our fantasy team, which was in first place after a month when almost everyone was healthy, has seen [...]

Felix Pie went 2-3 with a lead-off first-pitch double roped down the RF line, a bases loaded RBI walk on a 3-2 pitch, a grand slam HR hammered over the CF fence, and a hard-hit 4-3 GO, as the AZL Cubs thumped the AZL Royals 18-1 at Fitch Park Field #3 this morning in hot and sunny Mesa. box score So do I really think Pie was sent to Fitch Park to "rehab" a "sprained thumb"? Well... ... from what I've...
