The Cardinals need bullpen help and the Detroit Tigers have made it known around the majors that reliever Fernando Rodney is available. Is it a match? Rodney has struggled this year since returning from the disabled list in mid-June after...

Jon Paul Morosi has a new name to add to the reliever market: Fernando Rodney of the Tigers. He says the Tigers "appear willing to include Rodney in trade offers." Rodney, 31, has a 7.71 ERA in ten appearances this year. His season began in June due to shoulder tendinitis. He dealt with the same injury last year, but surgery was deemed unnecessary. Rodney is averaging 93.8 mph with his fastball this...

In part 2 of of TWFE's Tigers mid-term, I grade the relief pitchers. For much of the season, the pen had a revolving door, with the Tigers desperately trying to find the right combinations, while attempting to replace the injured Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya. Though some relievers gave us more grief, than relief, and are no longer in Detroit (Zach Miner went from 8th inning setup man, to long relief,...

SEATTLE — Over five straight scoreless outings, Fernando Rodney often looked like the setup ace he was for the Tigers in 2006. The performances gave Detroit fans new reason to believe that their bullpen could again be among the best in baseball.

If the Tigers are interested in making a trade before July 31, we're not sure if relievers are a priority on the shopping list. If Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya are healthy and mechanically sound, probably not. Starting pitchers and utility infielders might also be on the list. But that's probably something we could devote an entire post to. One reliever whose name was associated in trade rumors...

Who that will be is anybody's guess. I think we all hope it will be Joel Zumaya at some point. Freddy Dolsi and Fernando Rodney remain candidates despite some spotty outings in the last week plus. (Although F-Rod's ERA has shrunk by nearly 124 in the last week, which is really quite something.)

Jim Leyland got Fernando Rodney the kind of low-stress outing Tuesday night that he'd hoped to give him last week. With the Tigers down by four, Rodney pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

After a successful 4-2 west coast swing (one that could have been 6-0, save for a pair of Fernando Rodney 8th inning implosions), the Tigers are back home to finish off interleague play against St Louis and Colorado. In winning 8 of their last 10, and 12 of their last 15, the Tigers find themselves only 3 games under .500, a mere 5 games back in the Central, and for all intents and purposes, back in...

Blame it on Joel Zumaya . Blame it on Fernando Rodney . Blame it on Freddy Dolsi . But there wasn't a spot available for Denny Bautista in the Detroit Tigers' bullpen, and it appears that Dave Dombrowski thinks that's a permanent development. Jon Paul Morosi reports that Dombrowski believes he'll be able to trade Bautista this week, after discussions with a few teams left him feeling "optimistic"...

After his horrifying eight-pitch, eight-ball performance on Friday night, Fernando Rodney (at least in my mind) seemed ticketed for a "you can't come back until you can throw a strike" demotion to Single-A Lakeland. But maybe the Tigers feel like they've already gone that way enough with Dontrelle Willis . Of maybe they don't think Rodney is the same sort of reconstruction project that Willis is,...
