TIGERS CORNER: Francisco Cruceta designated for assignement; replacement Casey Fossum another lefty for pen

Francisco Cruceta Designated

Casey Fossum had been tearing up Triple A, so the Tigers decided to designate Francisco Cruceta to make room for him. Cruceta, 26, has only 26 big league innings under his belt. He's been knocked around, and lousy control hasn't helped. Cruceta missed all of spring training with visa issues. The Tigers are the fifth organization seduced by Cruceta's high ceiling (according to Baseball America).

Game 50: Deep Sixed

The Gist: The real Justin Verlander returned but the real Francisco Cruceta undid all of Verlander's stellar work in the Tigers' 6-1 loss to the Twins on Sunday . The coup de grâce was Cruceta grooving a 3-2, bases-loaded heater...

Verlander Strong in No-Decision Against Twins The Detroit Tigers bullpen failed Justin Verlander on Sunday afternoon when Francisco Cruceta gave up a grand slam to Jason Kubel in a 6-1 Twins victory. Francisco Cruceta Gives Up Slam, Tigers Give Up Another Series

The Tigers failed to capitalize on both their sweep over the Mariners and their 19 run outburst last night as they dropped the rubber game to the Twins. You have to feel for Justin Verlander in this one because he threw another nice game. Then he had to watch Francisco Cruceta give up a grand [...]

Six Minutes of Hope From Rodney and Zumaya

After a night in which it was discovered that Francisco Cruceta didn't just exist on the side of a milk carton, and would actually take the mound in a major league ballgame for the Tigers, Detroit might - if they dare - have more reason to be hopeful about its relief corps later on this season. Both Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya threw well enough in their bullpen sessions yesterday to make the Tigers'...
