Well, Dustin Nippert is no Al Nipper, that's for sure. Nippert, who came in for the injured Kason Gabbard in the top of the third was horrible. In 2-1/3 innings he allowed nine hits, eight runs, four walks. Franklyn German has also been brutal in relief of Nippert. Ok, three more runs for the Sox in the fifth. After a double by Julio Lugo and single by Kevin Cash put runners at the corners,...

Let's say you went to the Rangers' game yesterday and stayed for the bloody end. You stayed through the Franklyn German walk festival, Jason Botts' called strike three with the bases loaded, and the wasting of a leadoff triple in the 10th inning of a 5-4 loss to Toronto, it's not all bad. You were still able to get home in time to watch the end of The Masters or you were able to get...

Toronto scored a run off Franklyn German in the seventh to tie it. Texas couldn't tie it in the bottom, so with two innings left it's 4-4. The wind is swirling here and blowing wrappers all over the field. Oh, and it feels like Shea Stadium out here with the planes flying nearly overhead. The wind must be forcing some interesting routes to land at DFW.

Some minor league summaries to get you through the day while wondering how Kason Gabbard could be so awful in spring and so perfect at the start of the regular seaon and who Franklyn German can be exactly the opposite.

Evan Grant has a blog entry up with his thoughts on the season opener... He likes what he saw from Kevin Millwood, is not so sanguine about Franklyn German...

Evan Grant reports that the final spot on the 40 man roster for the new additions (Dustin Nippert, Adam Melhuse, Jamey Wright, Franklyn German) will be created by putting Brandon McCarthy on the 60 day disabled list. That means McCarthy cannot be activated until May 29, at the earliest. Color me disappointed. I was hopeful that McCarthy would be back by mid-May.

Two BTiA newsflashes in one evening? This must be some sort of record. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Texas Rangers have officially named left-hander C.J. Wilson as their closer, and have informed right-handers Jamey Wright and Franklyn German that they have made the club as relievers. Additionally, fellow right-handers Eric Hurley and [...]

C.J. Wilson was told today that he is officially the closer. Not a stunner, but manager Ron Washington admitted for the first time that Wilson is the guy. Wilson wasn't surprised, but is glad that it's out and he can focus on the season. Franklyn German and Jamey Wright have made the team. It means Eric Hurley and Frank Francisco head to minor league camp.

T.R. Sullivan says Jamey Wright and Franklyn German have made the final 25 man roster. There are still two slots open until Luis Mendoza is called up on April 12, at which point a reliever will presumably be sent down. I'd guess that Robinson Tejeda and Wes Littleton will stick, with Littleton going down when Mendoza is called up. As we've discussed, this is going to necessitate freeing...

T.R. Sullivan says that it looks like Robinson Tejeda is going to stick in the bullpen as a second long man (along with Jamey Wright), with the Rangers liking his arm and not wanting to risk him getting plucked off the waiver wire by another team. Sullivan says that Franklyn German has the inside track on the final bullpen spot, although Wes Littleton is also in the mix. The Rangers...

The final was 5-2. Matt Harrison ran into some troubles, but kept the damage to a minimum, allowing one run on three hits with a walk in three innings of work. By definition, folks, that's a save. Look out for Franklyn German. He keeps pitching well. He allowed no runs in his one inning of work with a strikeout. That's a 0.00 ERA with six strikeouts in four innings. Rangers consultant...

The AAA roster is being reported, although a little incomplete. Pitching staff: Francisco Cruceta, Willie Eyre, Frank Francisco, Franklyn German, John Koronka, Wes Littleton, Doug Mathis, A.J. Murray, Josh Rupe, Alfredo Simon, Bill White I assume that Cruceta, Koronka and Rupe are in the rotation. For however long he's in AAA I'd expect that Mathis would be as well. The other spot probably...
