I guess there's a few things to mention, even though "Major League teams are discouraged -- if not outright restricted -- from making announcements during the course of the World Series" [ MLB.com ]: - The Bucs released Franquelis Osoria. "[ Wreck Specks ]," "[ Gas Can ]," whatever you wanted to call him, the [ six fingered man ] is gone now. He was already off the 40-man roster, but now he no longer...

Goodbye, Franquelis . Opposing hitters will miss your sinker, your goggles, and all the homers you gave them. (Thanks to Sandlot Swashbucklers , who caught this first.) Baseball America also reports that the Rockies have released second baseman Jayson Nix . I wouldn't mind taking a shot at him, given that the Pirates' infield situation is rather fluid and they'll probably want a backup infielder anyway....

Chris Duffy and Franquelis Osoria have both passed through waivers and will be sent to Class AAA, the Post-Gazette reports. Rule of thumb--if two guys as old as Duffy and Osoria get through irrevocable waivers, they aren't worth anything. The days when the Braves or Marlins or whomever might have had interest in Duffy passed long ago. It would have been nice if the Bucs had shipped him off in the...

Friendly Confines | 2:20 | Karstens vs. Jason Marquis | Box Pre-Game Thoughts In the aftermath of the Jason Bay trade, the Pirates made a flurry of roster moves. DFA’d are Chris Duffy and Franquelis Osoria. Sent back down is Brian Bixler. With the end of the Bay era comes the beginning of the Jeff Karstens era. Early [...]

Some trade fallout: In order to make room for Andy LaRoche, Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss , the Bucs have optioned Brian Bixler back to Indianapolis and designated Chris Duffy and Franquelis Osoria for assignment. Bixler doesn't surprise me--he didn't serve an obvious purpose on the major league team--and Osoria is out the door because he performed badly and has no real upside. Duffy is mildly surprising,...

Pirates reliever Franquelis Osoria insists his right arm is not ready to fall off.

Well, that stunk. The Bucs piled up a 6-1 lead early against O's starter Brian Burres , highlighted by a three-run homer by the suddenly-awesome Jason Michaels . But the Phil Dumatrait (who struggled with his control all night), Franquelis Osoria and the Pirates let the Orioles crawl back into the game and eventually take the lead. After Osoria left the game, the Pirates were only down by one, but...

Another ugly game, and believe it or not, Evan Meek didn't allow any of those thirteen runs. Luis Rivas didn't play in this one, either, so our usual whipping boys aren't to blame. Instead, Zach Duke got bombed, then Franquelis Osoria relieved him in the fifth and got bombed even worse, and then Damaso Marte came in for an inning and got bombed too. Duke had no strikeouts, which means that in three...

Two wins, two walk-off home runs. On Tuesday it was Robert Andino. Tonight it was Mike Jacobs. Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th, Jake deposited a Franquelis Osoria fastball into the right field bleachers, making a winner out of the Marlins to kick off a three game weekend series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Scott [...]
