Magglio Ordonez hits the disabled list with oblique issues. He joins Gary Sheffield and Brandon Inge to become the 3rd Tiger forced out of action by oblique issues. Whether this is a random clustering of bad luck, or an issue with the training regimen remains to be seen. Given that the Javair [...]

Last night, Magglio Ordonez left the game early with a pulled oblique. After reporting to the club today with more pain, Detroit immediately placed Ordonez on the 15-day disabled list with the right oblique injury. With Ordonez joining Gary Sheffield and Brandon Inge with similar injuries, the Tigers recalled Matt Joyce from Triple-A Toledo. Ordonez was the only player on the Tigers to play in all...

I'm scheduled to make my rookie appearance on ESPN today. Alas, it's not because I hit a game-winning home run for the Detroit Tigers, as Gary Sheffield did on Wednesday night. Instead, I'll be debating the matter of Becky Hammon, an American woman who will play on the Russian basketball team in the Summer Olympics. I think it's a bad idea. Anyway, as I understand it, the segment will air live at 2:30...

Minutes after his ninth-inning hit ended the marathon game that began Wednesday night, Gary Sheffield was asked if he ever doubted whether he would be completely healthy again. "No. No. Never," he said. "No doubt. There is no doubt in me."

So maybe adding Gary Sheffield to the lineup won’t disrupt chemistry. Maybe the winning streak coinciding with Sheffield on the DL was coincidence and maybe he isn’t a cancer. And just maybe, the guy can still play. I was amazed at the number of people who thought there was causation in that Sheffield being [...]

The Tigers took care of another three game series today and it was one of those wins where they scored three runs or less. Clete Thomas drove in the game winning run with his second bases loaded walk of the game while Gary Sheffield had the big hit. His solo homerun in the bottom of [...]

That being the reports of Sheffield's demise, just as Samuel Clemens', were greatly exaggerated. Since his return from the DL, Sheff has been an offensive force of nature, a masher of prodigious proportions, and the reason the Tigers took 2 of 3 from the Cardinals. A .462 BA, 2 home runs, game winning and tying hits the last 2 days shows he is once again healthy. Small sample size, I know. But this...

Last night Clete Thomas doubled and then scored the winning run in the ninth inning on a base hit by Gary Sheffield. Today, Thomas pushed in a run in the tenth by walking on a 3-2 pitch from Cardinal reliever Mike Parisi giving the Tigers a 3-2 victory. Curtis Granderson singled to lead off the inning and moved up to second on a a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Raburn. The Cardinals then loaded the
