We won! We won!! In doing so we avoided being swept by the (now) 5th place Pirates and also broke a 3 game losing streak. The Astros started off in the 1st inning with a 3 run bomb to left field by Geoff Blum who was subbing for Miguel Tejada(I still don't see the point in Tejada sitting...) and gave the ball to Moehler in the bottom half of the 1st with a 4 run lead. Unfortunately that 4 run lead...

[ Yahoo.com ] Anyone shocked at that picture? ---- That was after the first inning. Still not shocked? Johnny got 2 quick outs, then hit a batter, walked the next one, and gave up a homer to Geoff Blum. Yeah. Geoff Blum. He'd give up three more singles (another run) before getting to the dugout for the fateful picture you see above. ---- Amazingly, though, Houston refused to accept the Pirates' concession...

That would be Dustin Pedroia's batting, as he's clearly overtaken J.D. Drew for the hottest on the club. Pedroia just hit a home run to lead off the third inning, tying the score at 1-1 (after Josh Beckett had allowed a solo shot to Geoff Blum).

Geoff Blum will get more playing time at third. Likewise, Darin Erstad in center. Those were the substantive developments on a day that began with GM Ed Wade calling a team meeting to address the team's play. First things first. Blum started in place of Ty Wigginton, and Cecil Cooper indicated it wouldn't be a one-time deal. Michael Bourn got another start in center, but Cooper said fans would be...

Geoff Blum provided half of the offense for the Astros (13-15) with a three-run double in the third against the Diamondbacks (19-8). D-backs starter Edgar Gonzalez (1-2) was knocked out of that same scoring inning, and Arizona never had a chance after that, despite the shaky start from Jack Cassel. Doug Brocail (1-0) got the win [...]

Cecil Cooper was right. This is going to be easy. These boys are making it look easy. They score on a Hunter Pence double and an error in the first, then get back-to-back dingers from Geoff Blum and Ty Wigginton in the second.
