One of the broadcasters on the Brewers-Phillies game actually just said, on national television, that Geoff Jenkins left the Brewers because he got tired of watching young players like Jeromy Burnitz and Carlos Lee come out of the Brewers system and then leave. Wow. Reminds me of the time Howard Cosell said during a Monday Night Baseball Mets-Reds game in about 1986 that Keith Hernandez had begged...

ALL RIGHT, so that Freddy Garcia trade didn't work out so well. And signing Adam Eaton to that 3-year, $24.5 million contract doesn't seem like the brightest idea at this point. And Geoff Jenkins pretty much lost his job to Jayson Werth.

There have been a number of questions regarding playoff roster rules. David Murphy has some answers on his blog, High Cheese. [Link] “As of Aug. 31, the Phillies had five players on the disabled list: Mike Zagurski, Scott Mathieson, Francisco Rosario, Tom Gordon and Geoff Jenkins,” writes Murphy. “Which means that, should they choose, they could add any of their minor leaguers who weren't on the roster...

In descending order of how productive they've been in 2008 -- including defense, of course -- here are some position players who deserve a bit more publicity outside of their home markets. Jayson Werth, Phillies RF -- Geoff Jenkins was supposed to be the main guy in Werth's corner spot this year, signed as a free agent away from the Brewers. But Werth has accumulate over 100 more plate appearances...

THERE'S ONLY ONE October, but for Geoff Jenkins, the month has never involved the sport of baseball. Ten Octobers have passed since he first donned a big-league uniform, and as another one creeps ever near, he again finds himself hoping that this will be the year that brings him a belated postseason debut.

Outfielder Geoff Jenkins has returned from the 15-day disabled list. Reservist Andy Tracy has suffered a break to his left hand and will miss the rest of the season. Footnotes for a crucial Game 3 between the Marlins and Phillies. First pitch is 4:05 ET. Down three in the loss column, it’s Operation: Critical. The margin for error is slim. They need this. On the mound, it’s Ricky Nolasco (13-7, 3.56)...

Not impressed The Phils acquired left-handed OF Matt Stairs from the Blue Jays, presumably for a bucket of clean batting-practice balls. I guess he takes Geoff Jenkins' slot in the lineup for now and eventually plays the role this year that Russell Branyan played last year: occasional pinch-hitter who does nothing but uppercuts for the fences or strikes out.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports the Phillies have acquired OF Matt Stairs from the Blue Jays for a player to be named later. According to Stark, the Phillies were searching for a left-handed outfielder to replace the injured OF Geoff Jenkins. Stairs was batting .250 with 11 HR, 44 RBI and 87 strikeouts in 320 at-bats this [...]

Via Phillies Nation, the Phillies acquire Matt Stairs from Toronto for a player to be determined. He'll be the replacement for Geoff Jenkins. Stairs power disappeared this season as he's slugging just .394. He can still draw a walk, however....
