Notes: Yost sees Mota's struggles as solvable

As awful as Guillermo Mota has been, Brewers manager Ned Yost said Thursday he thinks the embattled...

Mota's gotta go

I don't care if it's one of our convenient DL trips or a DFA, but Guillermo Mota is turning into Turnbow the deuce and a move needs to be made. I've been rather happy with Ned of late and that makes last night's choice that much harder to swallow. Nothing about Mota's last 3 outings made me (or anyone but Ned) think that he was the pitcher to put in in a one-run game last night. Heading into last night's...

Haudricourt Suggests Luis Pena

Nashville closer Luis Pena has pitched well lately and he is Tom Hardricourt's suggestion to replace Mota. I was checking out his BP profile and comps when I suddenly reached his 12th most comparable player: 12 Guillermo Mota 1999 Of course, in 1999 Mota was really good : 55.33 IP, 2.93 ERA, 153 ERA+, 1.43 WHIP. So that's OK.

Giving Haudricourt Props

Asian Badger pointed this out in the comments, but if you haven't read it , you need to: I'm guessing we'll be hearing tomorrow that Guillermo Mota has been designated for assignment. Yes, the move is long overdue, but enough is enough. After giving up four runs tonight in one inning, he has allowed eight runs in three innings in four July appearances. And that's after a 6.48 ERA in nine July outings....

If Hanley Ramirez Played In Boston He'd Lead Every Sportscenter

It's fair to say this trade worked out nicely for both sides, but let's see how the Marlins snagged Hanley Ramirez: Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell and Guillermo Mota to the Red Sox for Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and a couple minor league guys. Sanchez, for his part, threw a no-hitter in 2006 as a 22-year old but has been injury prone since. Lowell was seen as a throw-in at the time but has taken his pull-happy...

Mauer's homer in 8th extends Twins' streak to 10

Joe Mauer hit a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning to lift the Minnesota Twins over the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 Friday night for their 10th straight win, all against NL teams. Mauer sent an 0-2 pitch from reliever Guillermo Mota (2-4) over the center-...

Cameron, Branyan homer to lift Brewers again

Mike Cameron and Russell Branyan homered, the Brewers made a pair of heady baserunning plays and the bullpen held on in Milwaukee's 5-4 victory over the reeling Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night. Relievers Carlos Villanueva, Brian Shouse, Guillermo Mota...

Brewers’ bats bash the ‘Stros

The bats in Milwaukee are suddenly hot again. After five home runs on Wednesday night, the Crew hit four more on Thursday to win beat the Astros, 9-6 and win the series. The Brewers finished 3-3 on their road trip against the Rockies and Astros. If not for a Guillermo Mota meltdown last Friday, the [...]

Rockies Charge Back to Beat Brewers

Oh, Guillermo Mota. You've really turned into one of my favorite Brewers, with our flamboyant flare after you get out of an inning. But there's a couple of things I'd wish you'd do differently. First off, it's time to get ride of that Mets glove. If you're going to wear the blue glove, let's invest in a little darker shade to match your current team. Second, you can't give up four runs in an inning...

Brewers bullpen chokes against the Rockies

The Brewers got off to a fast start in Colorado on Friday night and it appeared that the Crew’s win streak was going to be extended to seven games. It seemed like the win was all locked up until Guillermo Mota entered the game in the eighth inning. Mota did not record an out but [...]

Mota wastes Brewers’ comeback

The Brewers spotted the Nationals a 6-0 lead on Sunday…then proceeded to score 6 runs in the 6th inning, eventually taking a 6-6 tie into the bottom of the 9th. Guillermo Mota put men on 1st and 3rd with one out…then threw a wild pitch to hand the Nationals a 7-6 defeat of the [...]

Eric Gagne has a shoulder problem?

There is a reason why I would never recommend that you draft, or trade for, Eric Gagne. The oft injured right hander is experiencing stiffness in his throwing shoulder, and with Guillermo Mota and Salomon Torres both waiting in the wings, the BrewCrew would be dumb to risk further injuring the former Cy Young winner. Dodgers rally past Brewers

Eric Gagne got another view of a blown save – from the bench. Juan Pierre hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the ninth inning off Guillermo Mota, and the Dodgers overcame a three-run deficit to beat host Milwaukee 6-4 last night and stop a season-high five-game losing streak.
