Bay leaves the yard

Jason Bay had smoked three deep flies this series, two today, and all of them had died at the warning track. He just broke through, crushing a 1-0 Jamey Wright offering 366 feet to the opposite field for a solo shot. The ball has carried extremely well to the right field portion of the park this weekend. Now that Bay connected, everyone in the Red Sox lineup has a hit, and only David Ortiz has two....

Wright scooped upYoukilis's chopper back to the mound but then threw it wide to third baseman Vazquez's left, allowing Pedroia to get by, and run in to score. 16-15.

Gotta love that strike zone of Joe West. Gerald Laird's reaction to that 3-2 pitch by Jamey Wright made me think he thought it was a ball. But West said Wright struck out Vlad Guerrero. And the replay shows it was a close pitch that could have gone either way. Give Wright some major credit for getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs.
