Seriously, what is going on? Jared Burton had no idea that a little pain in the back of his shoulder was going to lead to nearly a month on the shelf. “It’s frustrating,” Burton said. “I was going to try to test it Monday in a game situation but it wouldn’t cooperate.” Burton has a strained lat muscle. Jared Burton, who hasn't pitched since July 11, has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to that date. Todd Coffey was recalled to replace him. Not sure why Coffey and not Josh Roenicke, unless it was a 40-man roster issue.

Wow that tastes good . If the Reds Jared Burton could have held on to keep Volquez in line for the win, we'd be seeing his name three times on that graphic. He's not going to lead the league in wins, but ERA and strikeouts are definite possibilities. Here's another look at his performance: The great thing about this list is how few innings and pitches Voltron threw. Dusty Speier could have left him...

Get a load of this gem from Steve Phillips in a Mag article on how to fix the Reds: “Have owner Bob Castellini ring Hank Steinbrenner and tell him you've got a way to move Joba Chamberlain into the Yankees’ rotation. Offer Jared Burton, who’s whiffing hitters in bunches, and Jeremy Affeldt for Phil Hughes. [...]

So much for the Josh Fogg era. The former Rockie was knocked around for six runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in just four innings. Jared Burton was the star of the pitching staff although it didn’t matter too much. He threw two shutout innings and he struck out four in [...]

Teams have started “outrighting” players, which means they are assigning them to the minor leagues to get them off the 40-man major league roster. This makes those guys available to the Rule 5 draft at the Winter Meetings in December (where the Reds picked up Josh Hamilton and Jared Burton last year) and makes room [...]

Justin is wondering whether Jared Burton could be the next Mariano Rivera. Dare to dream, I say! He’s also looking at the PITCHf/x data for several other Reds pitchers, and it's fascinating stuff.
