The fruit of Bill Bavasi continues to be dealt with by the new administration in Seattle, as the Mariners have released Richie Sexson and placed Eric Bedard on the 15-day DL with a stiff shoulder. The M's have called up RHP Jared Wells and INF Tug Hulett from AAA Tacoma to fill the roster spots. U.S.S. Mariner wonders why Sexson (who could at least hit the odd homer) was DFA'd over Jose Vidro, the...

Ah, I remember the good old days, when we saw Baek designated for assignment even though they didn't need the roster spot, the bullpen wasn't that tired, and even while getting shelled he was a better rotation option than 3/5ths of the guys taking the mound regularly. Now he’s gone, traded to the Padres for [...]

The Padres and Mariners worked out a minor trade, as they have many times in the past. The Padres acquired Cha Seung Baek for Jared Wells. Baek was in the 10-day limbo period after being designated for assignment. Baek, 28, has a 4.96 ERA in 168.2 career innings for the Mariners. His best asset has been respectable control. The Ms signed Baek out of Korea for $1.3MM in '98. Baseball America said back...

San Diego has acquired Cha Seung Baek for Jared Wells. Good move I'd say by Towers. Can you fill in the Seattle blogs on Wells? Based on his numbers he looks like Triple-A fodder at best. Baek's an odd duck, sort of your typical slop righty, but he's got some decent movement and can give you 90-100 pitches. Not sure what you'll end up using him for, but he certainly looks more talented than Wells....
