SAPPORO (Kyodo) The Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters announced Friday the acquisition of slugging infielder Jason Botts, who has played in 15 games for the Texas Rangers this season. The switch-hitting Botts, who also plays outfield, and the Pacific League club have agreed on a ¥40 million deal that runs through the end of the 2008 season. Read the full story

The nine-year odyssey has apparently come to an end. MLBTradeRumors.com, quoting Japanese entertainment news website Sanspo.com, reports that the contract of Triple-A Oklahoma first baseman/outfielder Jason Botts has been sold to the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Japan’s Pacific League. The transaction has been independently confirmed by Jeff Brown of the Newberg Report forums, meaning that while...

According to Sanspo.com, the Nippon Ham Fighters have acquired Jason Botts from the Rangers. Botts, 27, is hitting .242/.342/.515 in Triple A. He wasn't able to figure it out in 282 career ABs with the Rangers. Thanks to Patrick Newman for the tip.

Nolan Ryan. Gerald Laird. C.J. Wilson. Ron Washington. Jason Botts. And now, quite possibly, C.J. Wilson again. The Texas Rangers organization and their ever-loyal (if not somewhat masochistic) fanbase have witnessed their fair share of personnel, management and clubhouse controversy over the last three-odd months. But can they handle a potentially imminent closer controversy? After staking sinkerballer...

From the Texas Rangers' website: Jason Botts is on his way to Triple-A Oklahoma. He'll join a crowded field of sluggers down there trying to earn playing time and the Rangers' attention. * * * "It's crowded, but hopefully we'll be able to clear that up soon," general manager Jon Daniels said. There is no room at the big league level and none expected anytime soon. That suggests that someone is probably...

Roundup of links! According to Jamey Newberg, Jason Botts has cleared waivers. He probably won't get another chance with the Rangers though. Gordon Edes notes that the Red Sox have five picks in the first three rounds of the June draft. Even though they don't start until the 30th pick, the Sox have had much success in recent years. No extension talks have begun with Nate McLouth, but Dejan Kovacevic...

Per the DMN , Jason Botts has cleared waivers. I expected that would happen , and I'm sure Jason is disappointed. I imagine he'll split time at DH and 1B for the Redhawks now.

With a month of in the books, major league teams will begin to shuffle jobs. The Texas Rangers began yesterday by designating-for-assigment 1B/OF Jason Botts. The 27-year-old amassed an impressive minor league slash stat line of 293/399/384 but was never able to replicate it in parts of three major league seasons (242/329/336). He is officially 4A. In his place, the Rangers recalled 1B Chris Shelton....

As was pointed out by loyal MetsToday readers Micalpalyn and DaveVW, Jason Botts has been DFA’d by the Texas Rangers. The switch-hitting slugger has been a low-risk, high-reward, under-the-radar target here at MetsToday since about 1949. OK, maybe not that long, but it sure feels that way. Now it appears he’s there for the taking, available [...]

The Rangers DFA'ed a lot of peoples unhealthy obsession today, Jason Botts. I was not one of those people. There is no doubt he LOOKS like he should be a star in baseball, but I look somewhat athletic, and we all know thats bullshit. The kid just has no position. He can't field well enough to play in the outfield, he is a very poor defensive first baseman, and above all, he can not hit. Sure, he'll...

The Rangers have given up on Jason Botts, designating him for assignment. Botts, 27, played first base and various other roles in 15 games for the Rangers this year. I can see him passing through waivers unclaimed. Botts may have earned the dreaded Quad-A label. He's failed to produce in 282 big league ABs but has raked Triple A pitching.

Per Evan Grant: The Rangers this afternoon, perhaps momentarily, will announce that Jason Botts has been designated for assignment and that Chris Shelton's contract will be purchased. The club is desperate for another productive right-handed bat in the lineup and Botts simply hasn't taken advantage of whatever limited opportunities he's been given. He is hitting .158 in 38 at-bats. The move will give...

Justin's grand slam, 5 RBI over-shadowed. A 5-0 lead in the top of the third was wiped out in the bottom of the inning, as Nick Blackburn was tagged for five consecutive singles to lead off the inning. Hank Blalock follwed immediately with a double, before Jason Botts drove his own double to right field. Blalock, who was trying to score from second, was thrown out at the plate. Botts, in an attempt...
