Taylor Buchholz is a player who might be traded? In his Winter Meetings preview for the Rockies, Thomas Harding lists a few players with big contracts who might be traded. Taylor Buchholz is one of those players, along with Jorge De La Rosa, Jason Grilli, and others. Huh? Have I missed something here? This is the first I've heard about any of those players possibly being traded. Second, they have big...

Somehow I neglected to give out the Purple Row Batter of the Year Award. But first a recap: Back in September, we voted on the Rockies' reliever of the year. The three candidates were Taylor Buchholz, Brian Fuentes, and Jason Grilli. Taylor Buchholz won the award , garnering 74 of the 151 votes cast. A week later, Aaron Cook took home Purple Row's Starter of the Year Award . He was a shining light...

Let's recap what Jim Leyland has done this year: Switched his corner infielders, platooned his Hall of Fame catcher, used a revolving door in left field, gotten into a verbal spat with an ex-relief pitcher (Jason Grilli), openly challenged his own players (Sheffield and Verlander by name, Guillen and Inge as well), dueled with the media and hold at least one ineffective clubhouse tirade.

I thought this photo would pretty much be retired to the BYB archives once Jason Grilli was traded to Colorado. But Joel Zumaya is taking on the look of a gas can, and thus forced us to dust the image off. (That one's for you, John Milton .) The Tigers had this game. They got another fine pitching effort from Zach Miner , who gave up only one run and five hits in six innings. Those numbers (along...

Reliever Jason Grilli was in the Tigers' midst Friday for the first time since: The Tigers traded him to the Rockies in late April and Leyland publicly disagreed in late May with a statement by Grilli in USA Today that Tigers officials had "broken up" the club's chemistry when they let go players such as Sean Casey.

Troy E. Renck / Denver Post : Grilli can handle heat at Comerica — Based on the venom directed at Jason Grilli by Tigers fans and manager Jim Leyland, one would think the reliever was responsible for slow U.S. car sales and Michigan's statewide recession. — Grilli returns to Detroit tonight as the slumping Rockies open a three-game series at Comerica Park.

PREGAME: Ooohhh, subplots abound. There’s that whole Jim Leyland quitting on the Rockies thing, but he’s already made his one statement about that. Plus there is that Jason Grilli commenting on team chemistry thing, and the fact that he pitches awful at Comerica Park. Of more concern though are the Tigers simultaneous marches [...]

Remember how steamed Jim Leyland got over former Tigers reliever Jason Grilli's criticism of the team's chemistry after the off-season trades? It was in May, before the Tigers started to win games. Anyway, Grilli says he meant nothing negative by it.
