The Boston Red Sox have signed Jason Lane to a minor league deal. Lane was born here in Sonoma County, California and went to El Molino High School right down the street. He was released by the the Yankees farm system and quickly picked up by the Sox. He will now start for the PawSox and could see some playing time in Boston when rosters expand. J.R. Towles coming back from Round Rock isn't the final nail in the coffin of the Astros' 2008 season. It's pissing & shitting on its grave. Towles to Cooper and Wade is like Jason Lane to Garner and Purpura.

Four or five or those might come with his next contract, which may set a record for a reliever. Pirates prospect Steve Pearce is getting some time at first base in Triple A. Despite that development, Dejan Kovacevic says there is no Adam LaRoche trade chatter yet....

After being converted from a pitcher to a fielder his original position was first base...

Jason Lane can opt out of his minor league deal with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre if he isn’t called up Tuesday. He has a .826 OPS in 227 PA at AAA. Him up. Shelley down. Ca$h, make it happen. What’s the worst that can happen? Lane sucks just as bad as Shelley (.500 OPS in 63 PA)? [...]

Any suggestions? The Hardball Times' Mike Lee did an enjoyable interview with...
