Yesterday when I saw the post headline on MetsBlog that said “Mets Close to Vargas, Johnson DFA’d” I thought for sure that Jason Vargas was having a splendid comeback from surgery and that Ben Johnson was being released. That Heath Bell deal was starting to sting again. But alas, it was CLAUDIO Vargas and DAN Johnson [...]

John Delcos reports on his blog for the Journal News that OF Moises Alou, LHP Jason Vargas and RHP Ambiorix Burgos have been placed on the DL retroactive to March 21. Not a huge surprise here, mainly procedural. Alou won't be ready for at least a month or so, Burgos is done for the year recovering [...]

John Delcos at Lo Hud , writes about Sandy Alomar Jr. and how long he should be with the Mets: Sandy Alomar’s stay with the Mets doesn't figure to be long, but at least it won't be as short as that of Jason Vargas. Alomar gives the Mets a right-handed bat off the bench, but he’s here to protect them when catcher Paul Lo Duca serves his suspension.

Delcos is reporting that Sandy Alomar, Jr is now a Met, and that Jason Vargas ...not so much. I'll miss Jason Vargas. The way he gives up the long ball. The way he loads the bases for Joe Smith. The gleam in his eye as his ERA skyrockets. But hey, we'll have a catcher when Lo Duca gets suspended in a few days. So put away your rusty catcher equipment Jose Valentine. Your mustache will stay free, not...
