Guerrero was given the first of two days off by manager Mike Scioscia, who discussed it with his slugging right fielder a couple of weeks ago. The Athletics have an all-lefty rotation, and Guerrero is batting 42 points lower against left-handers than righties. He also started the previous 18 games without a day off, five of them as the DH to rest his knees.

Mike DiGiovanna / Los Angeles Times : Angels keep the hits coming against Yankees — Angels pound out 17 hits, including four each by Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick, in 10-5 victory. Jered Weaver gets his 10th win. — A trio of New York Yankees pitchers probably knew how Reggie Willits felt Friday night.

I'm going to minimize my kvetching about Jered Weaver , for two reasons: first, it is the Yankees, though they are only sixth in the league in runs scored and a couple places ahead of the Angels, and second, Weaver's descent into utter mediocrity is basically complete. Sure, he had three quality starts of his last six, but his bad outings have a way of sticking with you. That's mainly because the last...

Jered Weaver ties a career high by allowing four home runs during New York's 8-2 victory. The Angels might be considered World Series favorites after adding slugger Mark Teixeira to a team that already had baseball's best record, but they are not unbeatable.

Haven't been able to out-score 'em. Haven't been able to out-pitch 'em. Today, Jered Weaver is on the mound for LA while the Bombers counter with Mike Mussina, who is coming off his worst outing of the year. We just can't beat this team -- Angels own us. C'mon Yanks,...

John Lackey came within 2 outs of the first Angel no-hitter since Mike Witt in 1984. Um, no. I don't care what MLB passes out for official definitions, but Jered Weaver and Jose Arredondo combined on a game where nobody got a hit. Yeah, Weaver gave up a run and lost it. So what? I'm not trying to call it a shutout, just a no-hitter. Mark Langston and Mike Witt combined on one in 1990 as well. Even...
