You can't really blame Luis Ayala for last night's loss. After all, Jesus Colome did allow two men on who eventually scored the go-ahead runs for the Reds, but the first man, Corey Patterson reached on an error by Willie Harris at second, followed by Jerry Hairston's single, and an intentional walk to Jeff Keppinger, so after an error on what should have been the second out, you can't really blame...

I missed today's game, thankfully, but this is what I see: Bottom 8, Nats just pulled to within 2 and Jesus Colome comes back out for his second inning of work. Two outs before the inevitable walk. LaRussa pinch-hits for his starting pitcher, bringing in left-handed slugger Chris Duncan. Duncan walks. Two on, two out. Up comes switch-hitter Cesar Izturis, and Acta brings in left-handed

The Phillies got their first win while sporting a new alternate home uniform, a throwback model from the 1940s minus the customary red pinstripes the team has worn since 1950. They wore cream-colored pants and jerseys with Phillies scripted in red across the chest. The team will wear these uniforms for day games at home.

Baseball Reference's stat of the day blog gives us all 69 4-pitch bases-loaded walks from last season. Aaron Fultz led the majors with three. But the Nats had two pitchers who pulled the horror twice: Matt Chico and Levale Speigner. Throw in the ones by Jesus Colome and Billy Traber, and the Nats accounted for about 9% of the MLB's total. Way to go, guys!
