As slow as he walked to first base after jacking a Joaquin Benoit pitch over the monster, Manny Ramirez almost beat David Ortiz to the plate. His two run home run -- No. 496 for his career -- gave the Sox a 5-3 lead, after Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia pumped life back into the Sox lineup. Pedroia sent a shot off the Monster. It hopped off the bat fast enough to make you think it would get...

The Rangers blew a three-run lead in the eighth inning. Joaquin Benoit threw 29 pitches, but only 12 of them for strikes. He loaded the bases and walked in the first run of the inning before being removed for Wes Littleton. Then Ben Broussard went in the hole between first and second to field a grounder ... and promptly threw it away, allowing the tying runs to score. Littleton did get...

Manager Ron Washington said he plans on going with Joaquin Benoit if the club needs a save tonight. He doesn't want to pitch C.J. Wilson again after the closer got two saves in yesterday's doubleheader (and threw 18 pitches). Washington said Guardado's shoulder has some soreness and Jamey Wright has a sore left oblique muscle, so he'd like to stay away from both of those guys. When the...

What is the deal with the Rangers defense? A sharp ground ball that might have given the Rangers a chance to get a force out was bobbled by Ian Kinsler. The score is tied at 3. Joaquin Benoit doesn't look great, but much of this isn't his fault. The problem now is that the Mariners have runners at first and second and still no outs. That's three errors for the game now.

Michael Young's two-base throwing error has opened things up for the Mariners in the eighth. They already have one run and runners at first and third with no outs for Ichiro Suzuki. Joaquin Benoit on the mound trying to prevent the Rangers from quickly blowing a two-run lead. As Tom and Josh said, it's hard to figure out what happened to Young on the throw. But you could tell as he started...

And he was there for a little while in the top of the first as he threw 30 pitches. An error by first baseman Edgardo Alfonzo (who dropped a low throw from Ian Kinsler) cost Jennings. He allowed one unearned run. Other notes: C.J. Wilson and Joaquin Benoit threw bullpen sessions today and will pitch in a minor league game Saturday. Big crowd today in Surprise. That's because the Cubs...

It's officially time to bump the Rangers' Kazuo Fukumori up on your cheatsheets. C.J. Wilson and Joaquin Benoit are both questionable for Opening Day, leaving an opportunity for Fukumori to beat out Eddie Guardado for save chances. Fukumori has six...

Kevin Millwood (sore right hamstring) and Joaquin Benoit (sore right shoulder, building up arm strength) pitched in a simulated game and didn't have any health issues. Millwood threw 54 pitches and gave up two hits, had five strikeouts and one walk. He wasn't happy about his location. Hank Blalock is playing third base tonight in Peoria. had five strikeouts, one walk and gave up two...

How does Kevin Millwood's right hamstring hold up to a simulated game today? If it's good, he should pitch in a regular game later this week. If Joaquin Benoit comes out OK on arm strength and if his shoulder feels good, he could also see game action this week. Sidney Ponson should arrive in camp later today. C.J. Wilson should throw a bullpen session today. We'll see how he's feeling....

It's a later day today for the players (many were pleased about that). Kevin Millwood and Joaquin Benoit throw in a simulated game that starts at 2:15 or so out here (4:15 Dallas time). Millwood should go three innings and Benoit one. Then the Rangers head to Peoria to play a night game that starts at 9:05 Dallas time.

Just four more days until there is an actual game, thankfully. Joaquin Benoit, along with Rangers' Foundation will be sending over 500 items to the Dominican Republic to assist victims from the flooding due to Tropical Storm Noel that devastated portions of the island in November. Benoit is from the northern city of Santiago, which was hit particularly hard by the storm. More...

If you count everybody invited to spring training, the Rangers could have as many as 18 guys vying for seven spots in the bullpen in 2008. But we already know a few of those players who have jobs: C.J. Wilson, Eddie Guardado, Joaquin Benoit and Kazuo Fukumori. No jobs are set in stone, but it appears that Wilson goes in as the closer with Guardado there to push him. Benoit and...

This weekend the Rangers held their annual fan fest and it was a lot of fun. I’m just going to hit on the highlights. –Personal favorite Joaquin Benoit was in attendance and won the Pitcher of the Year Award. It was good to see him again and he is looking forward to the coming season. Something [...]
