Twenty and counting, that's the haul the A's have taken in from their six trades since the end of last season. The A's traded away some major parts, including Dan Haren, Rich Harden, Nick Swisher, Joe Blanton, Mark Kotsay and Marco Scutaro, to obtain this...

The Phillies traded for Joe Blanton instead. The Yankees were told Toronto wouldn't trade Burnett within the division. And the Cardinals didn't match up on the two premium players the Jays are looking for -- and weren't that interested in the first place. So while Ricciardi is still listening, his phone isn't ringing -- not on Burnett, at least. ESPN

This morning on XM’s MLB Home Plate, Phillies GM Pat Gillick admitted that he is still heavily involved in discussions to further improve his team. In other words, the Joe Blanton acquisition was the beginning, rather than the end, of his dealing. Somewhat surprising, since the Phils don’t have much to offer from their farm system, [...]

Adam van Koeverden is your Olympic flag-bearer. (Rollins had hoped for Clara Hughes, but seemed to know AVK was the hands-down choice.) In other countries, is this even a big story'Skepticism greeted the Philadelphia Phiillies trading for, all together now, durable innings-eater Joe Blanton last week. He only gave up two homers in his first start for the Phillies and they won thanks to a

How about that? After new acquisition Joe Blanton set a Phillies record on the day off (with 7 cheesesteaks eaten in one trip to Pat's), he pitched last night in typical fashion: 6 innings, 5 runs, an impressive 1:3...

Based on one start in red pinstripes, the scouting reports on Joe Blanton appear to be accurate. The big right-hander pitches to contact with a four-pitch mix and won’t miss many bats. Blanton’s start can be dissected like this. He located his breaking ball well in the first two innings. He started to miss in the third, committing the cardinal National League sin of walking Jose Reyes to start an inning....

8 innings of struggles against Darth Santana coupled by the fact Joe Blanton did his best Adam Eaton impersonation and on the verge of conceding 1st place to the Mets...disheartening. Jose "I freakin' hate him" Reyes making a mental fielding gaffe, So Taguchi collecting his 1st pinch hit of the season to knock in 2 runs, and the Phils posting 6 runs in the 9th against the Mets horrendous bullpen sustaining...

Upon first glance, Joe Blanton appears to be a perfectly average major league pitcher. After all, his career ERA is 4.25 – exactly the same as the league’s ERA during that time. But if we look closer, we see that the newest Philadelphia Philly isn’t actually average; rather, he’s been the beneficiary of pitching over half of his innings in a favorable environment. Namely: McAfee Coliseum. Joe Blanton...

NEW YORK - The difference between the Mets and the Phillies in the National League East standings is one game, but what separated Joe Blanton from a strong debut for the Phils last night was the slightest turn - or lack thereof - by Carlos Delgado's wrists.

Phillies 8, Mets 6 It was a night that began with great promise (mostly the promise of a long ride on the 7 train and a brutal hangover) ; two teams sharing the NL East lead, battling on a muggy July evening, a marquee mismatch of Johan Santana vs. newly acquired Joe Blanton on the cards. [...]

The Philadelphia Phillies got just about what they should have expected from Joe Blanton in his debut with them—a proclivity toward surrendering the long ball. And if he’s going to give it up in Shea Stadium, a place where pitchers normally come to repair and regroup, perhaps you don’t want to know what’s going to [...]
