In part 2 of of TWFE's Tigers mid-term, I grade the relief pitchers. For much of the season, the pen had a revolving door, with the Tigers desperately trying to find the right combinations, while attempting to replace the injured Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya. Though some relievers gave us more grief, than relief, and are no longer in Detroit (Zach Miner went from 8th inning setup man, to long relief,...

Who that will be is anybody's guess. I think we all hope it will be Joel Zumaya at some point. Freddy Dolsi and Fernando Rodney remain candidates despite some spotty outings in the last week plus. (Although F-Rod's ERA has shrunk by nearly 124 in the last week, which is really quite something.)

No sorry not Joel Zumaya but the guy who effectively filled in for him while he was injured. Denny Bautista is a 27 y/o right handed relief pitcher who produced an ERA of 3.32 in 16 appearances ( 19 innings), he allowed one home run and only seven runs. Until this year his numbers have not been pretty bad on the major league level, but he has been traded by four consecutive teams (Marlins, Orioles,...

Blame it on Joel Zumaya . Blame it on Fernando Rodney . Blame it on Freddy Dolsi . But there wasn't a spot available for Denny Bautista in the Detroit Tigers' bullpen, and it appears that Dave Dombrowski thinks that's a permanent development. Jon Paul Morosi reports that Dombrowski believes he'll be able to trade Bautista this week, after discussions with a few teams left him feeling "optimistic"...

Dave Dombrowski said he is optimistic he will be able to trade right-hander Denny Bautista this week. Bautista's contract was designated for assignment Friday to clear a roster spot for right-hander Joel Zumaya. "I'll be working on that over the next couple days," Dombrowski said. "I've had conversations with clubs, but you never know until you get to the final stages of discussion." BRIGHT FUTURE:...
