Say hello to Joey Gathright- singles hitter. The KC outfielder was just placed on the 15-day DL yesterday, and I'm sure the Royals are going to miss his hitting prowess. Joey is batting .259, which isn't horrible. However, his slugging percentage is a ghastly .267...how the hell is that even possible? I'll tell you how- of his 62 hits, 59 have been singles (2 doubles, 1 triple, no homeruns). His on...

Eating lunch today, I stumbled upon this snippet from Christina Kahrl: Big Moves : Putting Brett Tomko out of his misery? Benching Tony Pena Jr.? Getting over Joey Gathright ? It seems these sorts of things abuse the meaning of the word “big.” The fixes are slightly more important, in that it's just as well to see if Kyle Davies is ready to take over a rotation slot, if Mike Aviles can play, and if...

Just for the sake of the exercise, which of the current group of 4th outfielder candidates do you think the Royals should focus on in 2009? Joey Gathright – 27 years old. Out of options. Will cost either $400K or go to arbitration in the off season. MLB career numbers – 1,101 at bats, .262/.326/.304, 76/103 SBs (73%). Can he help the Royals in 2009? I say he is a fine 4th outfielder but could only...

A few minutes ago, the colorful, legendary voice of the Chicago White Sox, Ken "the Hawk" Harrelson made--in my estimation--a somewhat dubious claim. He and partner Darrin "D.J." Jackson were discussing the incredible out-of-the-box speed of Royals outfielder Joey Gathright. According to Jackson, Gathright has been clocked at 3.3 seconds to first on a bunt and 3.6 swinging. Pretty fast, huh? Not to...

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. | The Royals did play sloppy on Sunday. Sure. Pitcher Luke Hochevar did not cover first on a double-play grounder. Center fielder Joey Gathright threw to third when he had no chance of getting the runner, allowing the hitter to advance to second. The Royals’ lineup drew just one walk. And so on.
