Roster particulars: As expected the Rangers designated Robinson Tejeda and Nelson Cruz for assignment, giving them 10 days to either trade, release or outright them to the minors. Left-hander John Rheinecker was placed on the 60-day DL. Right-hander Brandon McCarthy was also placed on the 60-day DL, meaning he won't be eligible to pitch for the Rangers until May 29. I think I just heard a collective...

“And another one gone and another one gone, another one bites the dust.” Shortly after word leaked back on February 19th that left-handed reliever John Rheinecker would miss at least the first half of the 2008 season after undergoing surgery to alleviate symptoms of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, I penned the following paragraph: Needless to say, this is [...]

Evan Grant has some blogginess up, looking at how well righty relief candidates have performed against lefties (given that John Rheinecker's surgery means Eddie Guardado will likely be the only non-closing lefty in the pen), and talking about the importance of the players' show of support for Josh Hamilton yesterday... Grant touches on the talk that has been out there for a while, about there being...

John Rheinecker's injury might just improve Wes Littleton's chances of making the team and might hurt Scott Feldman's. With Rheinecker out until at least mid-season because of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery, it's almost definite the Rangers won't have a second lefty setup reliever. Eddie Guardado will probably be a lefty setup/situational guy, but the Rangers could use somebody to work an inning...

Tough luck for John Rheinecker and his arm. I hope that surgery goes well for him and we get to see him again before the 2008 season is over. He really made a mark at the end of the 07...

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Left-hander John Rheinecker will miss at least the first half of the season, and it may leave the Rangers without a second left-handed reliever ahead of the closer. Rheinecker was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a condition that limits blood flow to the extremities. It is the same condition that wrecked third baseman Hank Blalock’s 2007 season. The Rangers expect Rheinecker...

Evan Grant reports that John Rheinecker is going to be sidelined until July with the same thoracic-whatsitcalled syndrome that Hank Blalock and Kenny Rogers have been stricken with in recent years. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't something in the water in the clubhouse, or something...I'm hard-pressed to think of too many other players who have had this... Rheinecker was out of options, and...

T.R. Sullivan says that the Rangers are sending John Rheinecker back to Arlington to be examined for "some swelling and tingling" in his arm (his left arm, presumably). Given that Rheinecker is out of options, and given that the Rangers have a ton of bullpen guys to sift through, I'm guessing that if Rheinecker is having any issues whatsoever, he'll start the season on the d.l.

Since RHP Jamey Wright wasn't needed in the bullpen on Friday (that's another bonus when your starter goes 8 2/3 innings), he will start on Saturday. The Rangers haven't decided what to do on Thursday. John Rheinecker could start, but that's Kameron Loe's day as well. We'll see what they decide. RHP Edinson Volquez isn't expected to pitch until after Sept. 1, by the way.
