Shaun Marcum returned with an exclamation mark and a handful of Canadians had good nights. Durham 4 Syracuse 1 Canadian Scott Richmond continued his dominance of Triple-A with seven shutout innings. He allowed three hits, no walks and struck out 10. Jonah Bayliss and Mike Gosling pitched poorly out of the pen and Bayliss took the loss. Offensively, Hector Luna went 2-for-4 with a double. Chip Cannon...

A heck of a lot of things happened during the three days when I couldn't post. This is going to be long. Here goes: ----- On Thursday, the Pirates traded Jonah Bayliss to (who else?) the Blue Jays for a player to be named later. Bayliss had showed a little promise early last year, but since then he's been super-wild and absolutely worthless. It's pretty remarkable we got anything at all for him, even...

The Pirates have traded minor league reliever--and former big-league reliever-- Jonah Bayliss to the Blue Jays for a player to be named. I guess it's possible that the PTBNL will be someone interesting, but I assume this is just a dump, like the Brian Rogers release a few days ago. When Bayliss made his debut with the Pirates he had terrific stuff, but he didn't have it when he pitched for the Pirates...

Luis Rivas has made the team: The Pirates this morning cut four players from spring training -- outfielder Kevin Thompson and relievers Jonah Bayliss, Elmer Dessens and Casey Fossum -- and added infielder Luis Rivas to the 40-man roster, effectively putting him on the team for opening day. He will be the starting second baseman if Freddy Sanchez, still unable to throw at 100 percent because of offseason...

Ryan Doumit started at catcher for the first time this spring and went 0 for 2 with a walk. In the top of the fifth, he was unable to corral a wild pitch by Jonah Bayliss, allowing Shane Victorino to score from third.

5:05 PM, WPGB Matt Cain vs. Paul Maholm . Note the weird start time for this one. Barry Bonds may or may not play , the Post-Gazette reports. -P- The Trib suggests that the PTBNL in the Matt Morris deal could be Josh Sharpless or Jonah Bayliss . It wouldn't bother me to lose either of them. -P- The deadline for draft picks to sign is approaching , and most of the top picks still haven't signed. Many...

Matt Morris will report to the Pirates today, which will require a roster move -- perhaps another demotion for Jonah Bayliss. Morris is scheduled to pitch Saturday against Cincinnati.

With two on, two outs, and the Bucs up by two, thirty-nine year old Masumi Kuwata took the mound after Jonah Bayliss walked the tying run in the 8th inning and flashed his wakizashi (blade of honor - for Kuwata...
