Repeated slurs directed at a succession of ineffective Mets relievers (Mel Rojas, Doug Sisk, Jorge Sosa) has long been a CSTB crutch tradition, but on the weekend Armando Benitez was cut by Toronto, let’s spare a positive thought for Danny Graves, who seems to be getting his life back together in the Twins organization. Finally nice to see a come-from-behind win for once. The Mets really needed a dramatic finish for both the fans and themselves. Matt Lindstrom’s fastball is really fast. What a pitcher. Last season, he registered 102 mph on the radar gun in a game against the Pirates. Jorge Sosa has found a new home in Houston. The [...]

To make room for Wandy Rodriguez's return from the DL tonight, the Astros designated reliever Dave Borkowski for assignment. They also signed righty Jorge Sosa to a minor league deal. Borkowski, 31, makes $800K this year. His 2.67 K/BB (21 innings) this year wasn't bad, but he allowed too many hits and home runs. Sosa, 30, was designated for assignment and then released by the Mets earlier this year....

Designated for assignment by the New York Mets back on May 13th, Jorge Sosa was officially released yesterday (bottom of the page) after the team was unable to find any takers on the trade market. Once he was DFA'd, it was a given that he and his $2MM salary would at least clear waivers. Sosa ended up declining an assignment to AAA New Orleans and is now a free agent. Since joining the Mets prior to...

This week, the Mets finally 100% officially said goodbye to Jorge Sosa . He’d been struggling for quite some time, we had more relievers than we realistically needed, someone had to go. That someone was him. After all, Matt Wise once healthy looked promising. Joe Smith was young with potential. Billy Wagner is almost [...]

By accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket, right-hander Julian Tavarez [stats] signaled that he would prefer to be pitching in the minors rather than doing no throwing at all. The Red Sox will not prevent him from getting another big league job, if they can trade or release him, plus they also gain some depth in the organization in case of an injury, a mutually beneficial situation...

Can that Jorge Sosa move can be rescinded? Aaron Heilman may be the reliever in need of reassignment. Heilman entered with the score tied in the 7th inning and allowed four runs as the Nationals won, 5-3, at Shea Wednesday.

I was pleasantly surprised by the flurry of Mets roster moves on Tuesday. First, the Mets designated Nelson Figueroa and Jorge Sosa for assignment. Every team now has a chance to sign either player. If they clear waivers, Sosa will have the option of declining a minor league assignment, which Marty Noble thinks he’ll do. Noble also claims that the Mets believe Figueroa “might” return if he clears....
