Percentage of strikes that are swinging strikes for various Ranger relievers: C.J. Wilson -- 12% Joaquin Benoit -- 21% Frankie Francisco -- 22% Franklyn German -- 17% Eddie Guardado -- 13% Jamey Wright -- 11% Josh Rupe -- 14% The major league average is 14%. Last season, when C.J. Wilson had 2 strikes on a batter, he allowed opposing batters to hit .134/.258/.150 against him. He allowed 17 hits, and...

DFA'ing Ben Broussard meant that the Rangers had an open spot on their 40 man roster. It is apparently being filled by Doug Mathis , who is being called up to give the Rangers a long man in the bullpen, after Josh Rupe and Frankie Francisco each threw a lot yesterday. Mathis is a guy who showed up on the radar last season because he's a strike-throwing sinkerballer, and has been pretty solid in AAA...

Evan Grant on today's game : Boy did this crowd, this team and this fan base need that. Truer words have not been written. This is the sort of game where usually you'd say, let Dustin Nippert or Josh Rupe or whomever at the end of the bullpen come in and pitch the 9th. But I didn't figure there was any way that was happening today...even at 10-0, Washington was going to ride Padilla as long as he...

When you are down by six runs and the opposing reliever walks the bases full, you do not swing at the first two pitches, then take a called strike three. That was Gerald Laird's four-pitch at-bat to end the top of the eighth. Josh Rupe has helped the Rangers a whole bunch tonight with his four innings of relief. It saved the heart of the bullpen from having to throw in a meaningless game. If the Rangers...

Facing that first-and-second no outs situation with the heart of the order staring him in the face, Josh Rupe got Dustin Pedroia to pop up to third, David Ortiz to line out to left and Manny Ramirez to ground out to short. Sox 9, Rangers 3 and Joe Thurston's now playing left field for the Sox

Both Luis Mendoza and Josh Rupe are supposed to be sinker ball pitchers. Both have left everything up in the strike zone all game. And the Red Sox have just teed off. They have hit for the cycle here in the fourth inning. Jason Varitek doubled, Sean Casey singled, Jacoby Ellsbury tripled and Dustin Pedroia hit the second ball of the night into the Green Monster seats. By the way, Casey scored from...

Some big questions for tonight's game...can the Rangers win 2 in a row? Can Josh Lewin avoid making any "Duran Duran" jokes with German Duran playing third base? Can Ron Washington leave Jason Botts in for an entire game? Can Vicente Padilla throw 150 pitches, if need be (given that Josh Rupe is the only fresh arm in the pen)? Vicente Padilla v. Roy Halladay... Go Rangers...

Kevin Millwood is out after five innings and 70 pitches. He gave up four runs. I'm not sure if he's out because he wasn't feeling great after a ball went off his hand and another off his leg. Josh Rupe is now pitching. The Rangers had a 4-0 lead, but the Angels came back to tie it.

Josh Rupe perseveres. Multiple local media sources, including Richard Durrett of the Dallas Morning News, are reporting that right-hander Kazuo Fukumori has been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma, facilitating the addition of today’s starting pitcher, right-hander Scott Feldman, to the active 25-man roster. Fukumori, 31, has surrendered six earned runs on six hits and four walks in just [...]

Kaz Fukumori has been optioned to AAA, making room on the 25 man roster for Scott Feldman, who is getting the start today. Not shocking, given that Fukumori has struggled in two of his first three outings, after a strong spring, and given that he and Josh Rupe were the only optionable options in the pen. Feldman will get sent down tomorrow, and someone else will be called up to replace him.

Josh Rupe gave up two runs in the eighth as the Rangers are now behind 8-1. Aubrey Huff, from Fort Worth Brewer, has had a big day. He's tied a career-high for hits with four and has four RBIs. If you're in the ballpark, there are some good seats in the lower bowl now that many fans have left to beat traffic.

The Rangers just announced that Josh Rupe has made the club. The final bullpen spot is between Robinson Tejeda and Wes Littleton.

Now that the catching situation is handled and Jason Botts has made the team, one of the last questions is who takes the remaining two bullpen spots. The choices: Josh Rupe, Wes Littleton and Robinson Tejeda. (Kameron Loe was sent down today). I think it's going to be Rupe and Tejeda. But pretend you're GM Jon Daniels and manager Ron Washington. Who do you take? Which two would you prefer and why?...
