Well, on the heels of a disastrous week for JulioLugo, the outcome isn't too surprising: What should we do with JulioLugo? Ride the pine! Embrace Lowrie! 40% of all votes Play him all of 2008 and then replace him with Jed Lowrie 26% of all votes Start him until we trade him this year. 23% of all [...]
In an unusual move designed to help the struggling fielding of JulioLugo, Terry Francona announced last night that Lugo would begin work selling concessions at Fenway Park when the team returned home, and would not be back on the field until his fielding improved. Lugo has cost the Sox at least one game, and has one of the worst fielding percentages in baseball. “I told...
Quickly updating a busy day for roster moves; Alex Cora was activated from the DL and will start for a still woozy JulioLugo at SS tonight. To make room for Cora on the roster, Jed Lowrie was optioned back to Pawtucket. It's very safe to say that Lowrie’s impact on this team isn't over this [...]
The Red Sox activated Alex Cora from the disabled list today, sending Jed Lowrie to the minors. I understand the need for Lowrie to play every day, and that Cora as a defender and fairly competent bat-handler is probably more valuable than not to this ballclub. But with JulioLugo...
MINNEAPOLIS - Alex Cora has been activated and Jed Lowrie has been sent back to Pawtucket. Sean Casey is with the team, but has not yet been activated. Cora is also starting at shortstop with JulioLugo still healing from a mild concussion, but we don't yet have a full lineup.
Boston Red Sox shortstop JulioLugo was expected to miss Saturday night's game against Minnesota with what manager Terry Francona said is likely a mild concussion, while Twins infielder Nick Punto was headed to the disabled list with a hamstring injury.
JulioLugo said he's suffering from headaches and the effects of a slight concussion as a result of a collision at second base last night and was scratched from tonight's lineup. We'll have more soon.
Can't blame this one on JulioLugo. Up 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth the Boston Red Sox went to star closer Jonathan Papelbon and he did not close the door giving up two runs on a Mike Lamb single as the Minnesota Twins took game one of the series 7-6. Boston came back in the [...]
MINNEAPOLIS - JulioLugo's 11th error is no longer a factor as the Sox have taken a 6-5 lead with four runs in the fifth. Dustin Pedroia started thinbgs off by beating out an infield hit to shortstop. After David ortiz walked, Manny Ramirez singled to center loading the bases. Mike Lowell stroked one of his patented doubles to left-center as two runs scored. After Kevin Youkilis' ground...
MINNEAPOLIS - Is it getting to the point where you just feel sorry for JulioLugo? It seems every ball hit to him is an adventure. You can tell he's in that 'hit it anywhere but to me" mode. In the second inning, two outs, Adam Everett at second base after he'd doubled, Carlos Gomez hits a routine grounder to short. To be fair, any shortstop in that situation has to rush because Gomez...

Steve Buckley / Boston Herald : JulioLugo lets it go — Questions about errors spark a Lugo outburst … DETROIT - JulioLugo [stats] has been around the big leagues long enough to know how it works: When you make a ninth-inning error that sets up the winning rally for the opposing team, you're going to find …
With all due respect to JulioLugo’s attempt to record 30 errors (by the All-Star break), the San JoseMercury News’ Tim Kawakami should've asked whether or not the Giants’ Barry Zito has what it takes to lose 30 games. As is, Kawakami calls Surfin’ Barry, losing pitcher in San Francisco’s 3-1 defeat at the [...]
