Thanks to Khalil Greene 's three-run bomb, a wild pitch by Chicago Cubs ' righty Jason Marquis , and a double by Jody Gerut , San Diego Padres lefty Shawn Estes is officially a 100-game winner. He started all of one game in 2006 before sitting out last season to recover from Tommy John surgery, earning his first win since 2005 in the 4-3 victory Tuesday. He's been gone so long, we didn't...

All it took for the San Diego Padres to suddenly look alive was to face a pitcher making his big league debut. Scott Hairston and Khalil Greene homered to spoil Greg Reynolds' first start, leading the Padres to a 6-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday and their first series win in nearly a month.

Trevor Hoffman pumped his fist and screamed “yeah” twice as Padres infielders Tadahito Iguchi and Khalil Greene turned a game-ending doubleplay last night. Hoffman was extra excited, not only because the Padres had won for just the fifth time in 23 games, 3-2 over the Rockies, but also because he had secured Greg Maddux's 350th career victory.

Don't know how we ended up with so many of these, but here they are: Padres can't pin hitting woes on Petco (ESPN, h/t parlo). Quoth Khalil Greene: I’m not going to consistently say it, but the ballpark plays a major factor in it — more than anybody lets on at times. That's the reality of it. [...]

Yesterday was one of those days that was filled with meaningful Home Runs. There were 27 Home Runs in total, two walk-offs (Burrell, Schumaker), three multi-Home Run games (Uggla, Pence, Bautista) and the first of the year from Khalil Greene (Hooray…finally, the last stone cutter on my entry this year). But sometimes meaning takes a whole [...]

Yesterday Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune wrote of Kevin Towers' pursuit of a long-term center field option. Jim Edmonds remains a question mark, and his contract is up after '08 anyway. Krasovic says the Cubs "have kept tabs" on shortstop Khalil Greene, while the Padres are still eyeing Felix Pie. The Cubs' win-now approach could lead to that move, as Reed Johnson is doing...

Troy Tulowitzki doubled home Willy Taveras with an unearned run in the top of the 22nd this morning to give the Colorado Rockies a 2-1 victory over the Padres in the longest game in Padres history. The Rockies had two out and no one on in the 22nd when Taveras grounded to shortstop Khalil Greene, whose high throw pulled first baseman Tony Clark off the bag.

Khalil Greene, who said last February that he generally prefers to remain anonymous, stayed silent this offseason while the Padres publicly aired their intent to sign him to either a three-or a four-year contract.
