but if he had been 6'3 I'd be hating him right now. Even from 50 yards away I knew he had misplayed that line drive and when he finally started headed in the right direction my heart was in my throat. Then he reached up to his full height and pulled down the line drive that put the nail in the Cubs coffin. It was the play of the night and it added just the right amount of drama to a great game. I...

In an otherwise laughable column about the precarious state of the Yankees — does anyone really think the Dodgers would trade Matt Kemp for “the regressing Melky Cabrera and the unphenomenal phenom Ian Kennedy”? — Portfolio writer Franz Lidz drops something of a Mike Mussina bombshell on an unsuspecting fan base. Relying an an anonymous official [...]

Andre Ethier singles to lead off the inning, then Loney, on a hit and run, hits a ball that deflects off the shortstop's glove. First and third with none out for Matt Kemp....

Sal Baxamusa thinks so : A Dodger lineup consisting of Rafael Furcal, Russell Martin, Manny Ramirez, Andre Ethier, James Loney, Matt Kemp, Casey Blake, Blake Dewitt, and some random pitcher will score something like 5.18 runs per game. That figure is the result of current Marcel projections for each those players, assuming an average-hitting pitcher for two plate appearances, and a league-average...

For a guy who was supposed to be our next superstar, Matt Kemp's 23 year old season left much to be desired. The much maligned Todd Hollandworth had a better season when he was ridiculed for winning the ROY. Among Dodger outfielders who have had at least 100 games and played 50% of those in the outfield and had an OPS+ > 100, Matt Kemp sits at the bottom. Still a nice season but one likes to see growth...

The 2008 Dodgers might not hit a lot of home runs, but Matt Kemp (37), Andre Ethier (36) and James Loney (34) are poised to become the first trio of Dodgers with 35 or more doubles in franchise history. Kemp and Loney each had doubles tonight.

Manny Ramirez hit his 13th and 14th homers tonight since being acquired by the Dodgers July 31. He is now third on the team in home runs, closing in on Matt Kemp (16) for the No. 2 spot. He also has more home runs as a Dodger than Steve Finley, who hit 13 in his two months with the team in 2004, and tonight passed Juan Pierre's career home run total of 12.

Coming into spring training this year, the Los Angeles Dodgers had 4 outfielders for 3 spots: the recently signed Andruw Jones, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, and the overpaid Juan Pierre. Most Dodgers fans, including me, were adamant that the Dodgers outfield should be Ethier-Jones-Kemp. I voiced my opinion on numerous occasions here on Faketeams. But the fact that Joe Torre was 1) in his first year as...

Matt Kemp gets a rest - tonight he is not starting for the first time since June 30 (Jason Repko's big day). Kemp has started all but three games since May 18, and 124 out of 139 this season.

As soon as Cristian Guzman stepped into the on-deck circle in the eighth inning, his Nationals teammates started to call for a triple. He gladly obliged, sending a pitch from Joe Beimel past center fielder Matt Kemp and to the wall—and Guzman wasn’t about to stop running. He slid into third base to complete just the second [...]
