Ichiro Unlikely To Be Dealt

Larry Stone of the Seattle Times runs through the Mariners situation as sellers. He considers Richie Sexson, Jose Vidro, Kenji Johjima, Miguel Batista, and Carlos Silva as untradeable due to either performance or contract, or both. Stone also doesn't see Ichiro Suzuki going anywhere: "The hot topic is Ichiro, who has a limited no-trade clause in his contract. The big question is whether he has a de...

Mariners Notebook: Batista asked to swallow his pride

SAN DIEGO -- After another bad outing dropped him to 3-10 on Wednesday, Miguel Batista blamed his control problems on continuing back spasms.

Fail.

Miguel Batista has thrown 41.7% of his pitches for a ball. That's not Dontrelle Willis bad, but it is worse than any single season in Daniel Cabrera's career (41.4% in 2004). From Aaron Sele in 2005 to Joel Pineiro in 2006 to Horacio Ramirez in 2007 and now Miguel Batista in 2008; this team just cannot escape epic suck in the rotation. Karmic payback for 2001-3 I suppose.

Game 64, Mariners at Blue Jays

4:07. Washburn v Lisch. I know many of you out there are a little upset with the Mariners right now, and unsure of what the future holds. But rest easy, because Jarrod Washburn’s contract runs through 2009 (at $10m). And so does Miguel Batista’s (at $9m) deal. And Silva’s here through 2011 ($11m for next year), and [...]
