New England Patriots defensive back Willie Andrews entered a plea to a marijuana possession charge, but won't face any prison time. The 24-year-old Andrews admitted in court Friday there was enough evidence to convict him at trial, but did not plead guilty. Lowell District Court Judge Neil Walker continued the case without a finding for a year. During that time, Andrews must speak to...

Top third base prospect Evan Longoria is up in the bigs, and probably to stay. So much for the Rays' cost-saving plan. Other third base prospects like Andy LaRoche, Chase Headley, and Neil Walker may spend time in the Majors...

Neil Walker had a pretty good idea coming into spring training that he wouldn't be on the Pirates' Opening Day roster.

Only three players have had more home runs so far this Spring than Steve Pearce , but I guess that wasn't impressive enough, as he was just sent to minor league camp (along with Andrew McCutchen , Neil Walker , Ty Taubenheim , T.J. Beam , Marino Salas , Bryan Bullington , Brian Rogers , Brian Bixler and Luis Cruz ). If Pearce had hit any more, sending him down might have become a serious...

-P- My preview of the 2008 Pirates is up at Hardball Times . -P- Dtoddwin points me in the direction of a really nice write-up of Neil Walker at Baseball Prospectus (subscription required) . The gist is that Walker has looked great at third in camp, and BP thinks he could be ready by midseason. -P- I wrote about the Brewers' pitching depth yesterday; well, Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin...

...And I wish I hadn't (subscription only). Man, it's a sad state of affairs. The program still sees Andrew McCutchen and Neil Walker having real upside ( Grady Sizemore is on McCutchen's comparables list, and Troy Tulowitzki is on Walker's), but that's about it. And they didn't do a projection for Ian Snell , one of the few players who might have made those charts less depressing...

Kevin Goldstein put out his top 100 prospect list over at BP today . As expected, your Pittsburgh Pirates put up their characteristic ho-hum showing with three appearances - Andrew McCutchen at 24th, Neil Walker barely cracking the list at 94th and a surprise appearance by Steve Pearce at 43rd. McCutchen's ranking no doubt was hurt by his poor showing at AA and his position fell from...
