More bad news. [ PG ] ---- Phil Dumatrait back to the DL. That makes his past few weeks look like this: a couple really bad starts, a DL stint, another bad start, another DL stint. Ugly. ---- Yoslan Herrera takes his place. Yeah, he's the Cuban defector we signed a couple years ago. He's been o.k. in the minors, but has only made one start in AAA (it was successful). By all accounts he is not ready...

PNC Park | 7:05 | Herrera vs. Todd Wellemeyer | Box Pre-Game Thoughts The Pirates made a flurry of moves again and guess what. Yoslan Herrera will be starting today instead of Phil Dumatrait who is headed back to the DL. Only five pitchers born in Cuba have won more than 100 games - Dolf Luque, Mike [...]

Phil Dumatrait back to the DL. Yikes, this is getting ugly. Herrera is 27 and can't even put up a good strikeout rate in Class AA. Thanks to Matskralc.

Well, I think we have an idea why Runelvys hasn’t excelled in the majors. 4 innings, 13 hits, 4 walks 2 HR, 10 ER. Anyone missing Shawn Chacon? Might could Cooper be re-thinking his, uh, dislike of Cassel? This is like watching Jennings after he got hurt. Or even watching Phil Dumatrait, fresh off the DL, [...]

Starters, both teams: 7.1 IP, 17 ER Bullpens, both teams: 9.2 IP, 0 ER The player of the game, as predicted, was Runelvys Hernandez , who got pelted for a remarkable ten earned runs. Thanks, Astros! That was enough to win, even though Phil Dumatrait wasn't much better. With the seven earned runs he took, his ERA is now 5.26. So much for his being the Pirates' ace. Now, that's... well, I'm not sure...

Runelvys Hernandez vs. Phil Dumatrait , 7:05. As a Pirates fan, I'd like to extend a warm "thank you" to the Astros for starting Runelvys Hernandez in this game. Hernandez, you'll recall, posted an 8.47 ERA in four starts for the Indianapolis Indians last year. The Bucs are coming off a very tough series against the Brewers that dropped them to last place, and the indifference with which the Astros...

Astros (41-48) at Pirates (40-47) 7:05--PNC Park, Pittsburgh Runelvys Hernandez (0-2, 5.40) vs. Phil Dumatrait (3-4, 4.66) [ Preview ] --------------- We definitely need to get things together at home before the All-Star break. -- We've only faced Houston in one series this year, and we took two of three at PNC. No journeying to Minute Maid yet. The 'Stros are teetering on the brink of last place (currently...
