Before tonight's game the Mets activated Moises Alou and Marlon Anderson, while formally placing Ryan Church on the disabled list and sending down Raul Casanova. Finally the Mets are no longer carrying three catchers which seemed to be mind boggling to most of us Mets fans, when Alou goes down again (which he will) hopefully the Mets will give one of the outfielders a look. The focus is now on Chavez...

Ramon Castro was scheduled to start yesterday, in place of Brian Schneider with a day game after a night game. However, Castro did not arrive to the stadium until 45 minutes before the game started – and so Raul Casanova got the start instead. Castro told reporters that he goofed up the times on his team-issued pocket schedule, [...]

Ramon Castro was slated to start today’s game but was benched and fined for being late to Petco Park. According to SNY’s Gary Cohen, Castro showed up only an hour before game time due to “over-sleeping” and Raul Casanova will get the start instead.

Ramon Castro arrived at the park at 12:10, claiming to have overslept. He was replaced in the line-up by Raul Casanova and fined. As a reserve, Castro knew yesterday he would start today. Just dumb.

The Mets released their first lineup with Ramon Castro in it, but the backup catcher still had not arrived at PETCO Park by noon PST today for the 1:05 start, so he was replaced by Raul Casanova. No word yet...

Raul Casanova is back with the team, following time spent on bereavement leave. As such, Robinson Cancel is headed to Triple-A New Orleans. …you know, because when down one outfielder, i.e. Ryan Church, and with a weak-hitting bench, it’s super important to carry three catchers along with Abraham Nunez, who was hitting .133 in Triple-A before being [...]

Raul Casanova was placed on Bereavement leave and before saying anything about baseball, my condolences to him and his family. While Casanova is away from the team he will be replaced by Robinson Cancel. The Mets appear to be fixated on carrying three catchers even though it's an unnecessary roster spot. As I've said before Willie insist using his catchers regularly as pinch hitters and when they are...

Sometimes Willie Randolph just makes no sense with his pinch hitting decisions. When Moises Alou went on the disabled list, Raul Casanova was called up. Now this might be an indictment on the Mets’ Triple-A roster and the team’s lack of depth. But it also stood to reason that the big club wanted to use Ramon [...]

I have nothing against Raul Casanova, but it's a waste of a roster spot to have a guy who is strictly a pinch hitter. There is no need for three catchers, none of them play a second position and all are very slow on the base path. Willie isn't using Castro as an early game pinch hitter and late in games if either Casanova or Castro get in scoring position a pinch runner is used. Casanova is a third...
