Johan Santana (15-7, 2.64) pitches on short rest when the Mets continue their series with Ricky Nolasco (15-7, 3.55) and the dangerous Marlins. Santana toes the slab at 1:10 p.m. A Mets loss clinches an NL East title for the Phillies, who can also put themselves into the post-season with a win this afternoon against the Nationals.

The Cincinnati Reds play their final home game today, taking on the Florida Marlins in a make-up game of a rainout from May. Aaron Harang will face Ricky Nolasco. The Marlins are still theoretically in the race, but in actual terms have no chance to make the postseason. There are too many teams in front of them. The game will start at 1:10, and I would bet there are plenty of good seats available.

Ricky Nolasco tossed his tenth straight quality start and Hanley Ramirez homered twice on Wednesday night at Dolphin Stadium as the Marlins blasted the Astros, 14-3 to collect their seventh straight victory, matching a season high. I had to do a double take to make sure that was really Nolasco, who coming in to this game, [...]

Coming in to Wednesday night’s game in Philadelphia, Ricky Nolasco had a 2-0 record and a 1.86 ERA in his last four starts. Over the same span, Brett Myers had a 4-0 record and a 0.57 ERA. Clearly, something had to give. Fortunately, it wasn’t the 25-year-old. Nolasco went 7 and a third quality innings, [...]
