The line up looks a lot different then yesterday. Scott Hairston leading off today. I guess that works, since I like Brian Giles in the three spot much more than in the lead off position. The Aussie Huber is back in the line up after a long break playing left field. I guess Edgar Gonzalez didn't play spectacular enough to steal Kouz's position again. Probably not the best of line ups,...

All it took for the San Diego Padres to suddenly look alive was to face a pitcher making his big league debut. Scott Hairston and Khalil Greene homered to spoil Greg Reynolds' first start, leading the Padres to a 6-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday and their first series win in nearly a month.

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Marlins and Padres have inquired on recently designated outfielder Jacque Jones. The Tigers, on the hook for $3MM of Jones' salary this year, would obviously prefer a trade. Many Padres are not hitting, including outfielders Jim Edmonds and Scott Hairston. Jones might not hit for much power anymore, but he can play a quality center field. The Fish...

ATLANTA – Scouts who've seen a lot of the Padres consider them among the slowest and least athletic teams in the major leagues. Some coaches and players regard the Padres as perhaps the slowest team in baseball. Among the team's field regulars, only outfielder Scott Hairston has better than average speed, and it is only slightly above average.

It really is something when you look back and read about all of the stuff that he had to go through to cross the color barrier. I wore No. 42 last year when I was with Arizona, too, and I got chills when the on-the-field ceremonies took place. It will be a special day, and I'm really happy that we're honoring Jackie Robinson like this again.

... as Gwynn, so why shouldn't I wear the number? In fact, let me wear the number all the time." Hairston on the number: "I just kinda liked wearing my own number, but if they want me to wear some other dude's number, then you know, whatever. Who's number is it again?"

Padres face the Giants in San Francisco's home opener. It's the venerable Greg Maddux vs. the Matt Cain. I can't wait to see Scott Hairston face Matt Cain again after all the flirting that happened between them at the end of last season. The excitment has my balls wound up so tight! The game starts at 1:35 PST and will be televised live and repeated on Channel 4 tonight. Padres, Maddux...

Entering the season I was pretty skeptical about the prospect of Scott Hairston being an everyday player for the Pads despite the strong work he did for them at the end of last season. However, it’s hard to argue with him collecting 31 hits in his first 102 at-bats with the club, including 10 home [...]

Couple of minor notes for this Friday afternoon: Paul McAnulty, who is out of options, is going to make the Padres 25-man roster. With Scott Hairston filling in for injured Jim Edmonds in center, McAnulty could get a fair share of playing time in left. The other candidate for playing time is Jody Gerut. It appears the Rays have decided on their final bullpen spot, giving the job to Scott...
