With the inspiration of Deadspin editor AJ Daulerio, apparently a Tampa Bay Rays fan has started a petition to get former Mets and Rays pitcher Victor Zambrano to throw out the first pitch of their first playoff game in franchise history. They intend to send the petition to the Rays president, Matt Silverman. Most Mets fans [...]

K/BB ratio -- for many statheads, that one number tells you most of what you need to know about a pitcher. The higher the K/BB, the lower the ERA, and vice versa. But every year, there are a number of starters who post good ERAs with crappy K/BB ratios, and fans of those teams come up with moderately rational reasons why they can continue to beat the K/BB rule in the future. Here are three of those...

SP Carl Pavano was placed on waivers and if the Mets are truly shutting down John Maine for the rest of the season it would make sense for them to pick-up another starter. To me Pavano is the Yankees Victor Zambrano, an expensive injured flop but instead of the cost being prospects it was actual money. But if the Yanks pick-up most of the tab then what would be the risk, Joe D. of Metsmerized online...

Chase Weems was promoted to Charleston. He didn’t play much for the GCL Yanks after Kyle Higashioka showed up, and I can’t imagine he’ll get much playing time with Montero & Romine on the team. Victor Zambrano was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. Hah. Triple-A Scranton (7-2 win over Buffalo) 16 of their 20 [...]

The Yanks are just pilin’ up the Saturday starter optioins. According to Michael Schmidt, writing on the Bats blog, Victor Zambrano is a candidate for that start as well. I wonder if Whitey Ford or Jimmy Key are available as well. Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees blog

Ponson, Pavano and, would you believe, Zambrano. Yup, Joel Sherman mentions Victor Zambrano today in the latest edition of his Hardball blog.

Joel Sherman / Hardball : 3 UP: Zambrano, Met Pitching and Church — 1. Right now, the Yankees are saying that either Phil Hughes or Carl Pavano will start Saturday in Camden Yards. But let me throw a surprise name into the mix: Victor Zambrano. Now no Yankee official has uttered his name...

After their awful 3-7 road trip, a lot of people are counting the Yankees out. Are they? No, but they can't keep playing this way, and it feels like every starter is destined to go down with an injury. They've even got Victor Zambrano in their minor league system now, so they're looking rather desperate. A week or so ago they were in the hunt, but they're running out of games and need to string some...

The Yanks are continuing to sign pitchers who aren’t very good like it’s nobody’s business. After weeks of speculation, they signed Victor Zambrano to a Minor League deal. Zambrano is most famous for being terrible after the Mets inexplicably traded Scott Kazmir for him. Meanwhile, the Twins are about to DFA Livan Hernandez. What are [...]
