Round of applause for Zach Miner. Yes, it's just one game, but the lack on control that lead to his demotion to Toledo, was not in effect tonight. Only one walk and 56 of his 88 pitches were strikes. They need someone to step-up in the starting rotation, and Zach certainly did a great job tonight. Not that he really needed to. It seems that the Tigers might have taken issue with being shut out twice,...

Zach Miner got plenty of run support in his first start of the season. Miguel Cabrera had five hits and six RBIs, Matt Joyce was a double short of the cycle and Carlos Guillen scored five runs as the Tigers beat up the Royals, 19-4, tonight in Kansas City.

Zach Miner (3-3, 4.23) vs. Luke Hochevar (6-7, 5.10) As the Tigers try to claw back into the AL Central race, it seems appropriate that they have to face one of the teams that put them in this predicament to begin with. The Royals landed a punch squarely on the Tigers' chin at the very beginning of the season with a sweep at Comerica Park, and Detroit has been trying to recover ever since. Zach Miner...

Immediately after yesterday's win in Baltimore, the Tigers made the roster move we knew they'd make, bringing up Zach Miner from Toledo to start tonight's opener in Kansas City. Miner handed off his Mud Hen baton to Jeff Larish , who goes back down to Triple-A after a rather impressive return to Detroit. At first glance, the hope would seem to be that Miner could fill the fifth starter role long-term....

BALTIMORE -- Zach Miner was a middle reliever when the Tigers sent him to the minors a few weeks ago. He returns in a larger role, his favorite role -- starting pitcher.

Leyland said that right-hander Zach Miner likely will start for the Tigers on Monday night in Kansas City. "That's not etched in stone, but it looks like it will be Miner," he said. Leyland added that he expects Miner to remain in the rotation.

Zach Miner starts again The question of the 5th starter has been answered - for now. Zach Miner will take the spot formerly occupied by Eddie Bonine and before him Dontrelle Willis. Miner had some struggles with control out of the pen this year. But in two “stretch-out” starts for Toledo he has posted [...]

Walking seven batters in your last 5 1/3 innings is no way to get through life, son. I don't know if those were the exact words that Jim Leyland used while informing Zach Miner that he was being sent down to Triple-A Toledo, but what he actually said couldn't have been much different. With the emergence of Freddy Dolsi and the return of Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya to the Tigers' bullpen, Miner...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Zach Miner walked four batters and threw 49 pitches in two innings Tuesday night. It was his third straight unsmooth outing. On Wednesday morning, the Tigers sent Miner to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Aquilino Lopez, who'd been in the Tigers bullpen until he was sent down a few weeks ago when Fernando Rodney was activated.

Zach Miner paid the price for a 4 walk effort on Tuesday night with an assignment to Toledo. Aquilino Lopez who was being stretched out as a starter has been recalled to provide a strike thrower in the pen. Both moves are warranted, but my first thought when hearing of this was Denny Bautista. [...]
