Opinion: Catcher to Replace Brian Schneider

According to Adam Rubin, in a report for the Daily News, the Mets off-season shopping list is as follows: Catcher to replace Brian Schneider. Power upgrade in left field. Second baseman if Luis Castillo can be traded. Rotation help. Eighth-inning reliever. Second lefthander in the bullpen to pair with Pedro Feliciano. Yes, I like the simple idea of getting 20 home runs [...]

Read: Mets need a Splash

Stan McNeal of the Sporting News previews the MLB Hot Stove season, discussing, ‘Truths and half-truths of free agency and trade talk.’ According to McNeal, “The Mets need a splash.” …ugh… no… the Mets don’t NEED a splash… the Mets need to get their act together and win games… if they can do this by taking baby steps [...]

2010 Offseason Plan

The 2009 Opening Day payroll was approximately 100 million dollars, and given all the recent divorce news, I find it hard to believe that number would be increased going into 2010. Therefore, my plan is based on a operating budget of about 100 million dollars with perhaps a bit of flexibility. Just to clarify, this is what I would do if I were the GM. Projected 2010 Payroll-100 Million Dollars As I...

Won't take much to out bid the Giants for Molina

If you believe the reports, then Bengie Molina is our primary target for catcher this off-season. Molina was targeted by Omar in 2006 but when the veteran catcher was slow to respond the Mets traded for Paul Lo Duca. Now the team is looking for power from as many positions as possible and not only does Molina hit around 15 HRs per season he also has an excellent reputation with young staffs. The Giants...

Harden & Johnson not returning to the Cubs

I don't believe either player will end up with the Mets because they are injury risks but I still think they would solid additions to the club. Rich Harden and Reed Johnson don't appear in the Cubs plan for next year mainly due to the injuries they sustained during the 2009 season. Rich Harden when on the field is one of the best pitchers in the league, the problem is Harden always seemed to be injured....

Rosenthal: Braves having trouble dealing Lowe

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says that while the Braves are shopping Derek Lowe, they are having a difficult time finding a taker. It doesn’t surprise me that they are having trouble trading a 37 year old pitcher who makes $15 million per year… According to Rosenthal, the Angels had been interested in Lowe but the [...]

Buzz: Braves shopping Derek Lowe to Brewers

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com believes the Braves and Brewers have discussed sending LHP Derek Lowe to Milwaukee for OF Cory Hart. However, according to Rosenthal, “The Brewers are not sure they would want Lowe even if the Braves included significant money in the deal.” The Braves signed Lowe last off season to a four-year, $60 million deal. He [...]

Pads have interesting pieces to move...

The Padres maybe looking to move some players that might interest the Mets. San Diego currently has two third baseman who are both arbitration eligible, they could end up moving one of them to save some money. Either player could interest the Mets despite having a franchise player at third. Kevin Kouzmanoff is a gold glove caliber 3B who I believe with those defensive skills could transition to 1B...

This afternoon in an appearance on XM 175 MLB Home Plate (SIRIUS 210), former Mets catcher Paul LoDuca expressed a desire to return to the big leagues in 2010. D-backs acquire Heilman from Cubs

Reliever Aaron Heilman has been acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Chicago Cubs for two minor league prospects. The 31-year-old right-hander was 4-4 with a 4.11 ERA in 70 appearances last season, striking out 65 and walking 34. He spent six seasons with the New York Mets before he was traded to Seattle last December, then dealt to the Cubs a month later. Chicago gets 24-year-old left-hander...

News: Cubs trade Aaron Heilman to D-Backs

The Cubs announced today that they have traded RHP Aaron Heilman to the D-Backs for minor leagers Scott Maine and Ryne White. …yet again, another non-tender cadidate gets moved, instead of being released… the Cubs were probably going to have to pay heilman around $2 million next season, after which he can be a free agent… [...]

WASHINGTON – Justin Maxwell's grand slam off All-Star closer Francisco Rodriguez with two outs in the ninth inning gave the Nationals a 7-4 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday, Washington's first win all season when trailing after eight innings. Maxwell drove a full-count pitch from Rodriguez (3-6) barely over the wall in left field. As the rookie rounded the bases, the Nationals streamed out...
